HAMMOND — The LSU AgCenter and the Tangipahoa Parish Master Gardener Association will present a daylong Pollination Celebration for all ages at the AgCenter Hammond Research Station on Sept. 15.
The event, which will feature kids’ activities, speakers and make-and-take projects, will begin at 9 a.m. and end at 3 p.m., said Whitney Wallace, LSU AgCenter agent in Tangipahoa Parish.
The day will include activities for adults and children throughout the research station gardens.
Some of the topics will include:
— Attracting bees and beneficial insects to your fruit and vegetable garden.
— Creating moonlight gardens.
— Backyard beekeeping.
— Safer pest control for your garden and yard.
— Planting natives to attract pollinators.
“Come see live honeybee hives, taste honey, learn about pollination, watch hummingbirds get banded, plant a garden, make a hummer feeder, walk through a live butterfly exhibit, learn to photograph nature and much more,” Wallace said.
The event will feature a vendors market with plants and handcrafted items for sale. Food and drinks will be available for purchase.
Admission to the event is $5 per vehicle, which includes parking.
The station is located approximately 6 miles east of Hammond at 21549 Old Covington Highway (La. 1067).
