Senior Hall of Fame, ACE lettermen, valedictorians, salutatorian named at EHS Academic Excellence program

Eunice High School held its Academic Excellence program on April 27 and honored and recognized juniors and seniors for their academics and achievements.
The program included announcement of Senior Hall of Fame. Students are, Abbigail Fontenot, Brian Lopez-delano, William McLemore, Sadie Middlebrooks, Matthew Miller, Caroline Mire, Vivian Mire, Robbi Palmer, Brad Sonnier and Erin Young.
Junior and senior Academic Curriculum Excellence Lettermen were recognized. Principal Mitchell Fontenot added the criteria to meet academic lettering requirements.
Fontenot said, “Eunice High School, in conjunction with it’s Academic Curriculum Excellence program (Academics Count at Eunice High School), offers its students the opportunity to earn a letterman jacket in academics.
“In order to qualify for an academic letter, the student must be enrolled in Eunice High School’s Academic Curriculum for Excellence.
“The student must have completed at least five semesters of the Academic Excellence Curriculum program (three of which must be at Eunice High) and must have earned a minimum cumulative 3.3 G.P.A. in this specific college prep curriculum.
“A student, therefore, has four opportunities to earn an academic letter before he graduates, at the end of each fall or spring semester during his/her junior or senior year. Once a student letters in academics, he/she is then required to maintain the necessary academic requirements to continue to be enrolled in the A.C.E. program.

Recognition of National Honor Society students were part of the program. To be eligible for National Honor Society, a student must maintain a 3.5 cumulative GPA in their core courses. Students in NHS must also perform eight hours of tutoring service per year.

Woodmen of the World US history award is chosen by the social studies department based on rally results and a comprehensive history test given to all “A average” American History students. The student that showed the greatest overall achievment receives this award. The recipient of the WOW US history award is Nicole Duvall.
Science Fair students who represented Eunice High by placing at the Regional Science Fair received awards. These students are Megan Fontenot and Emily Gotreaux place third in Cellular and Molecular Biology. Shelby Richardson placed third in Engineering Mechanics.
Social Studies Fair students placing and representing Eunice High and placed at state fair are Cody Lalonde and Deacon Richard placed first in group for history.
Eunice High students participated in the Southwest Louisiana District Rally held at LSUE.
Students placing first in their respective category received a $50 scholarship per year for two years. They are Melissa Hernandez, accounting; Josiah Doucet, biology I, and William McLemore, World History.
Students placed second were: Alexis Gallow, advanced math-functions and statistics; Drew Duplechin, advanced math-precalculus; Vivian Mire, calculus; Traelyn Brasseaux, chemistry; Anzley Fontenot, English I; Valeria Lopez, French II, Caitlyn Sonnier, journalism; and Cody Lalonde, world geography.
Students placing third were: John Ross Miller, English IV; Ivy Alleman, geometry; Caroline Mire, physics; and Nicole Duvall, US History.
Eunice High students participated in the St. Landry Parish Math Rally and winners included Tyler Darbonne, fourth place in geometry; and Kelby Drew Duplechin, third place in advanced math.
The Voice of Democracy essay contest, sponsored by the Veterans of Foreign Wars 8971 Post, awarded first place to William McLemore, first place; and Vivian Mire, second place.
The Outstanding Junior Memorial Award is an Olan Miller Memorial plaque donated by the 1961 graduating class to recognize an outstanding junior student for service, leadership, and scholarship. The recipient is voted on by the entire junior class and faculty. This year’s recipient is Allie Leger.
The Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership is designed for a sophomore student who will attend for a week this summer at the Hoby Youth Leadership Conference in Baton Rouge. This year’s recipients are Abigail Miller and Owen Reppond.
Eunice High students were represented at LSUE during the Tri-Parish Foreign Language Festival. French I Prose Kayley Vige, superior; French I Poetry, McKenzie Guillory, Tiyana Lee, and Trissidy Semien, all superior; French II Prose, Kelli Istre, Valeria Lopez, and Abigail Miller, all superior; and French II Poetry, Anna LeBouef, superior.
The John R. Young Chevrolet Award for French is awarded to a student who has taken at least two French courses and displays characteristics of scholarship and service. This year’s recipient is Abigail Miller.
The Art Award is awarded to a student who has demonstrated willingness to learn and the diligence to complete all art projects no matter what the difficulty was. This year’s recipient of the Eunice Community Art House Art Award is Abigail Miller.
The 2018 Boys and Girls State delegates will represent Eunice High on the LSU campus for a week during the summer. Those delegates are Emily Cormier and Caitlin Sonnier and Kole Grouvillia.
