St. Edmund School held its annual Sixth, seventh-and eighth-grade Awards program May 26 recognizing and honoring students who excelled in academics and extra curricular activities.
On the program, awards were given to students who maintained all “A’s” Principal Honor Roll, A & B teacher’s honor roll.
Accelerated Readers recipients were recognized. Those receiving top AR points of 100 and above, in sixth, seventh and eighth grades, were given certificates.
Class officers of sixth, seventh and eighth-grades were recognized with certificates.
Athletics awards were presented to sixth, seventh and eighth-grade students participating in all sports (football, softball, track, baseball, basketball, golf, cross country, track, tennis, cheerleading, Jayettes).
The Scholastic Athlete Award is given to students who have maintained the highest GPA throughout the school term while playing in at least two sports. This years’ recipients are Rebecca Benoit and Alex Fontenot.
The Woodman of the World History Award is given to students who achieves and earns the highest GPA in American History. Receiving this honor was Dylan Miller.
The Eunice News Language, Arts award is given to a student who highly excels and in English and Language. Jordyn Manuel earned the highest GPA in English.
The distinquished Clare Francois Montz Memorial Award is given to eighth grade students who have excelled academically in English, Science, Math and Religion. Henry Brow received the English award; Dylan Miller was the recipient of the science award, Pierson Brown received the math award; and Alex Fontenot achieved the Religion Award.
The Young Christian Awards are given to students who are recognized as highest standards and Christian values in school, who possess hard working skills, respect others, and show compassion for others. This year’s recipients for the sixth six weeks of school term were honored. They are McKenzie Manuel, Ethan Daigle, Kyle Miller, Mark Fruge, Ali Lantz and Easton Coleman.
Every year sixth grade students participate in a project for International Day. International Day was held in the Jeanmard Center on May 12.
Each group has the opportunity to choose a country, and research information on it. Students are required to write and report, include detailed knowledge of the country, create a model to represent the country, create ethnic costumes, and display photos and information about the country on a presentation board.
International Day awards were given to the following, for Outstanding knowledge of the Country, Jamaica. Students were Alice Brown, MacKenzie Manuel, and Morgan Russell.
For Outstanding Model of the Country, the award went to Anna Fruge, Kadence Kidder, and Madelyn David, for their country of Sri Lanka.
For Outstanding effort in Creating Ethnic Costumes, Joshua Boudreaux, Ethan Daigle and Gavin Dupre won for their country of Egypt.
The Most Unique Display award went to Clay Doucet, John Fruge and Samuel Heinen for their chosen country of China.
The top three awards for International Day were awarded to the group of students that created an outstanding overall project, including display board, model, costume and interview.
Third place went to Joshua Boudreaux, Ethan Daigle and Gavin Dupre for Eygpt; and Jasmine Fruge, Lindsy Hebert and Mary Miller also won third for their country of Greece.
Second place went to Anna Fruge, Kadence Kidder and Madelyn McDavid for their country of Sri Lanka.
First place overall International Day winner went to Alice Brown, MacKenzie Manuel and Morgan Russell for their chosen country of Jamaica.
