These youths are not stuck inside playing video games this summer like some kids tend to do. They are serving others and are doing so outside of their comfort zone, state and home town.
Riggs Horn, one of the volunteers, is raking leaves and loose grass clippings in the front of Eunice’s Food Bank building.
Horn is one of the 35 students from Parkway Hills Baptist Church in Plano, Texas.
Corey Gummett, head student pastor of the group, said that they traveled along with 35 students and seven adults to serve others.
Gummett added, “What began last year as what we call a Bounce organization of volunteers to work whereas needed, we decided to continue each summer. We are in close contact with David Harper of Eunice, as he is a volunteer at his church, First Baptist, and a principal at Elton Elementary. David asked if we would be interested in doing a sports camp at his school this week in the morning hours. We agreed and we decided to extend our days to afternoon hours here in Eunice. We have found different projects, such as this one, cleaning up outdoors at the food bank.”
The group of volunteers will continue this week to work at widows’ homes by cleaning and painting. Gummett said, “Our plans are to clean or whatever needed at the Welcome House on Thursday.”
