Glendale Elementary held a Veterans Day Celebration on campus Friday to honor and pay tribute to all veterans. Rep. Phillip DeVillier presented Laura Lombas, principal at Glendale, with a new flag.
Fourth graders Austin Sittig and Colin Fuselier, the school’s official flag raisers, raised the new flag on the pole during the ceremony.
Becky Manuel’s first graders sang a special song, “The Grand Old Flag” for veterans in attendance.
Dwight Jodon played “Taps,” on his instrument. All veterans in attendance were introduced, recognized and each told briefly of their service.
Some of the veterans represented included Roger Veillon, Don Reber, Gene Olivier, David Crader, Kenny Manuel, Horace Pickney, and Terry W. Fontenot.
Glendale students recited the Pledge of Allegiance and sang the “Star Spangled Banner.”
Veterans were invited to refreshments in the cafeteria at the conclusion of the ceremony.
