The daughters of the late ‘Nonc’ Allie Young of Basile made a donation of his accordion to the Cajun French Music Hall of Fame and Museum in Eunice Thursday.
Nonc Young’s two daughters, Diane Williamson of Sulphur, and Jewell Ortego of Elton, posed for a photo, holding the accordion, next to Young’s Hall of Fame photo and biographic information inside the museum.
The accordion was made in the 1970s by Marc Savoy of Eunice. Nonc Young played this accordion on a world tour in the 1980s. The tour performances included Japan, Thailand, Burma, Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka, Oman, Cairo and Italy.
The late Cajun musician Allie Young was born on May 3, 1912, in Basile, and died in 2003.
He began playing the accordion at the age of 8.
Young played four years with the Fruge Family Band, seven years with the Balfa Brothers Band, and played four tours in Canada with D. L. Menard.
Young organized his present band The Basile Cajun Band in 1984. He recorded an album in French in 1975, recorded ‘Two Steppin with Nonc Allie in 1990’, and recorded ‘Allons Danser Avec Nonc Allie’ in 1992.
