Chef Huguet to demonstrate crab cake preparation

Executive Chef Jason Huguet of the Steamboat Warehouse in Washington will demonstrate how to prepare his signature crab cakes using Louisiana blue point crab meat at the Prairie Acadian Cultural Center of Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve at 4 p.m. Saturday.
Huguet began his career at the Steamboat Warehouse as a dishwasher/busboy in 1994. He graduated cum laude from the Chef John Folse Culinary Institute at Nicholls State University in 2000 and worked with chefs such as Folse and Paul Prudhomme of K-Paul’s Louisiana Kitchen in New Orleans. Huguet worked his way up the ladder and became the owner of the Steamboat Warehouse in June 2006.

The Prairie Acadian Cultural Center is managed by the National Park Service as part of Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve. The center’s exhibits interpret the culture of the Acadians who settled southwest Louisiana’s prairies. The center is open 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and Saturday 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. The center is closed on all federal holidays but open on Mardi Gras Day.
