Staff Report
Nearly 200 properties in St. Landry Parish are advertised for sale on CivicSource.com, a site that deals in adjudicated property in Eunice and in the parish.
At meeting on the adjudication process is scheduled at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Eunice City Municipal Complex, 300 S. 2nd St. The meeting will be in the second floor council chambers.
Comprehensive training on all aspects of purchasing adjudicated properties, including how to acquire title insurance, will be covered, according to a news release from CivicSource.
“All adjudicated properties for sale at CivicSource.com went unsold in a previous tax certificate sale. Taxing authorities across the South-Central Louisiana area, including Evangeline Parish and St. Landry Parish auction these tax-delinquent properties online through CivicSource.com.
“By hosting the sale online, bidders who would normally be unable to attend the auction in person are able to participate from their homes or places of business. The sales return blighted, abandoned or tax-delinquent properties to commerce while regenerating significant annual tax revenues to the parish,” the news release stated.
Beau Byers, of CivicSource, said at a June 6 St. Landry Parish Council meeting that 38 deposits have been placed on properties in the parish. An $850 deposit is required and it takes up to three months to complete a purchase, he said.
Byers was at the Council meeting to present a revised contract to the parish.
Councilman Harold Taylor asked for a revision to the contract to allow property owners adjoining adjudicated property to be allowed to bid, a request Byers said has been met in other parishes.
Byers said the parish can get out the contract at any time.
“The properties are listed for $0 plus closing costs. Both commercial and residential properties are available for purchase,” the news release stated.
Reservations are requested for the Wednesday meeting and may be made at CivicSource.com.
