Clerk warns about deed scam

St. Landry Parish Clerk of Court Charles Jagneaux is warning the public about Recorded Deed Notice Scam being sent out to the public.
The scam begins with a letter urging property owners obtain a copy of their Property Assessment Profile. The letter goes on to say for a charge of $128 you will receive a “Property Assessment Profile” and a Copy of the Act of Sale for the property, Jagneaux stated in a news release.
“Do not send them any money!” he stated.
An assessment of your property can be retrieved for free at the St Landry Parish Assessor’s Office. A copy of your Act of Sale with your property description and sale price only costs $1 per page at the Clerk’s Office.
If you have any questions or concerns about your property, contact the Clerk Of Court at 337-942-5606 or the St Landry Parish Assessor’s Office at 337-942-3166.
