Courthouse Confederate monument staying put for now

A monument honoring Confederate soldiers is staying put at least for now.
The St. Landry Parish Council’s Public Works Committee voted 2-3 to proceed with moving the monument on the northeast corner of the courthouse square. But Council Chairman Jerry Red cast a “yes” vote to tie the issue at Wednesday’s meeting.
Council member Nancy Carriere made the motion that the monument be moved.
