Eunice High earns an A in state scores

Eunice High School earned its sixth straight A in the school performance scores across the district in scores released Wednesday at the Louisiana Department of Education.
Eunice High School was the only regular high school in the parish earning an A. The Magnet Academy for Cultural Arts also scored an A.
The other St. Landry Parish district school scoring an A is Palmetto Elementary.
The St. Landry Parish school district scored a C, which is unchanged from the 2023 score. The 2024 score was 72.9, down from 73.1 in 2023.
Surrounding districts Acadia and Evangeline scored Bs. Acadia Parish’s score is 80, down from 81.2 in 2023. Evangeline Parish’s score is 78.2, down slightly from 78.3 in 2023.
The St. Landry Parish School Board stated in a news release, “We are excited to celebrate the hard-earned accomplishments of the schools that improved their letter grades, those recognized as top gains schools, our opportunity honorees, and those schools that have demonstrated growth,” said Superintendent Milton Batiste. “This achievement reflects the dedication and perseverance of our teachers, staff, students, and families. I have no doubt that this is only the beginning of a phenomenal instructional shift for our district!”

Eleven schools earned a Progress Index of an “A” with no assigned label, designating them as Top Gains Schools. The Progress-Index is calculated by assessing the improvement of schools based on student performance over two years.

In addition, three schools have achieved Opportunity Honoree status, underscoring their efforts in creating equitable learning environments that support all students. These schools scored in the 90th percentile or higher in one or more of the following subpopulations: English Learners, Economically Disadvantaged, and/or Special Education. The following schools were identified as Opportunity Honoree Schools:
