Eunice Rec summer activities

Rain or shine, Eunice will continue to host summer sports and recreation events through August.
Robert Johnson, Recreation Director at the Eunice Rec, addressed the Eunice City Council and Mayor Scott Fontenot regarding the following events.
The Eunice Rec Tennis Camp will be held on July 24-28, from 8 a.m. to noon. The camp is open to all ages. Register online.
Logan Hebert, 2017 National Champion LSUE Assistant Softball Coach, will host the End of Summer Softball Camp on July 29. Registration is open to children from second grade to the 11th grade. Participants will learn techniques to improve their softball skills.
The Eunice Rec Sports Complex will host the Hott R N L FASA Fastpitch Tournament on July 29. The tournament is one of 20 FASA tournaments that will take place in Eunice this year. FASA tournaments average 20-25 teams. Teams belong to the 10-year-old league, 12-year-old league, 14 year-old league and the 16- to 18-year-old league.
The Eunice Rec Football & Soccer Organizational Meeting will take place on August 1 at the City Council Chambers. The meeting will gage community interest in sports leagues.
The Cajun Country Classic FASA Fastpitch Tournament is scheduled for August 5-6.
The Eunice Rec Adult COED Softball Tournament is scheduled for August 11-13. Johnson said eight to 10 team captains have voiced interest in the event. He said the tournament could evolve into an adult league with games on weeknights or some weekends.
The Eunice High Alumni Association will host an alumni softball tournament on August 18-20 at the Eunice Rec Sports Complex. The tournament will benefit Eunice High sports.
Johnson also reported on events from June to present.
The 2017 PONY Baseball & Softball season has ended. The Eunice Rec Sports Complex hosted weekly games and 650 participants. The season concluded with the coach’s appreciation dinner. Coaches discussed how they could become more involved in other recreation programs.
The 2017 PONY All-Star baseball and softball teams are celebrating successful seasons. Softball 8U Champions PONY South Zone qualified for the World Series Tournament in Laredo, TX. Baseball 12U Undefeated Section Champions qualified for Super Regional.
The first Eunice Rec Hunting, Boating, Fishing and Archery Camp filled all 50 participant slots in three days. Participants, ages 10-15, were able to gain hunting and boating liscences after completing certification tests.
Participants also learned about fishing techniques, including fish aging, fish identification and fish anatonomy. John Sturgess taught archery lessons.
