Frugé, owner and second-generation farmer of Parish Rice says, “Receiving the Farmer of the Year award is an incredible honor, and it’s deeply meaningful to see our work recognized in this way. Going out on my own to grow and package Parish Rice was a leap driven by my passion for high-quality rice. Knowing our low-glycemic rice positively impacts our customers’ lives means everything to me. I’m inspired by our community’s response and proud to contribute to more sustainable, customer-focused practices in the rice industry. I look forward to continuing this journey and shaping the future of American rice.”

Parish Rice was established in 2019 by Michael Frugé, a second-generation farmer from Eunice. After collaborating with the LSU Agricultural Center, Frugé began cultivating Frontier rice, a high-protein variety known for its exceptionally low glycemic index. Frontier rice boasts the lowest glycemic index (GI) value of any white rice on the market, making it a unique and healthy choice for consumers. GMO-free and rich in nutrients, Parish Rice contains 53% more protein than traditional rice brands and features a GI value of just 41—the lowest among white rice varieties.
