Library announces latest Monday night movie lineup

The Acadia Parish Library has kicked off its latest Monday Night at the Movies line-up, and there are four movies left on tap.
The movies will be shown in the meeting room of the Crowley Library and the series will conclude on May 14.
All movies, which are free and open to the public, will begin at 6 p.m. and will be hosted by Dr. C. Richard Bier.
• April 23: “A Raisin in the Sun,” 1961, 128 minutes, black and white. Directed by Daniel Petrie. Starring Sidney Poitier, Claudia McNeil, Ruby Dee.
The Younger family is a working class African-American family with three generations living in a cramped apartment. However, it appears their fortunes are about to change as grandmother Younger is about to receive a large insurance payout. However, there is considerable disagreement within the household on how the money will be spent, resulting in friction within the Younger family.
• April 30: “Billy Budd,” 1962, 123 minutes, black and white. Directed by Peter Ustinov. Starring Robert Ryan, Peter Ustinov, Melvyn Douglas. Billy is an innocent, naive seaman in the British Navy in 1797. When the ship’s sadistic master-at-arms is murdered. Billy Budd is accused and tried for the crime.
• May 7: “Rio Bravo,” 1950, 141 minutes, color. Directed by Howard Hawks. Starring John Wayne, Dean Martin, Ricky Nelson.
The sheriff of a small town in southwest Texas must keep custody of a murderer whose brother, a powerful rancher, is trying to help him escape. After a friend is killed trying to muster support for him, he and his deputies - a disgraced drunk and a cantankerous old cripple - must find a way to hold out against the rancher’s hired guns until the marshal arrives. In the meantime, matters are complicated by the presence of a young gunslinger and a mysterious beauty who just came in on the last stagecoach.
• May 14: “Duck Soup,” 1933, 68 minutes, color. Directed by Leo McCarey. Starring the Marx Brothers.
The small state of Freedonia is in a financial mess, borrowing a huge sum of cash from wealthy widow Mrs. Teasdale. She insists on replacing the current president with crazy Rufus T. Firefly, and mayhem erupts. To make matters worse, the neighboring state sends inept spies Chicolini and Pinky to obtain top secret information, creating even more chaos!
