Local woman injured in collision with a train

A Eunice woman was taken to a Lafayette hospital after a train and her vehicle collided on Sunday morning.
According to Eunice Police Chief Kyle LeBouef, “On Sunday, Oct. 26, at approximately 8:52 a.m., Eunice Police responded to a train and passenger vehicle collision on North 12th. Upon arrival, officers discovered that the train and vehicle had collided at the tracks on North 12th Street, but the train was unable to stop the train until it reached North 8th.
“Investigation revealed the that the driver of the vehicle was southbound on North 12th Street, and the Union Pacific train was eastbound on the tracks. For unknown reasons, the driver failed to stop and yield to the train prior to crossing the tracks which caused the train to collide into the passenger side of the vehicle.
“The driver was the lone occupant of the vehicle. EMS arrived on scene to render medical attention to the driver.
“The driver was eventually transported to a Lafayette hospital for further evaluation and treatment. The driver’s condition was listed as critical, but stable. The investigation is ongoing.”
