United Way to recognize women
The St. Landry-Evangeline United Way will hold its Women With Heart from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Feb. 9 at the Opelousas Civic Center, 1638 Creswell Lane, Opelousas.
The event honors outstanding women and includes a Power of the Purse auciton.

American Legion Post 129 meeting cancelled

The LeDoux Library at LSUE campus is currently accepting book donations for a library book sale to be held in April.

St. Mathilda fried fish dinner sale
The St. Mathilda Church KPC Ladies Auxiliary will have its annual Fried Fish Dinners from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 14 at a pick up spot at Bishop Ceaser Center.

Acadia election supervisors to meet
The Acadia Parish Board of Election Supervisors will meet in the Registrar of Voters Office, 568 NW Court Circle, Crowley, a at 10 a.m Feb. 23 to draw the commissioners for the March 24 Municipal Primary Election.
This meeting is open to the public.

Lenten Day of Reflection set Feb. 17
A Lenton Day of Reflection, with a theme of Embracing Change, Maintaining Values will be held from 8:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. Feb. 17, at St. Pius X School Theatre.
Speakers will include the Rev. Chester C. Arceneaux, Katie Austin and Kessie Thomas.
Cost is $25 in advance, and $30 at the door, and will include a light breakfast, lunch, and snacks provided.

Rendez-Vous De Cajuns at Liberty
The Laissez Les Bons Temps Rouler Au Rendez-Vous De Cajuns is scheduled at the Liberty every from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday with live entertainment.
The Liberty opens at 4 p.m. the show begins at 6 p.m.
For the month of February, bands include:
Feb. 10: Samedi Gras! Jambalaya Cajun Band with the appearance by the Basile Mardi Gras Assoc. Hosted by Barry Ancelet.
Feb. 17: Yvette Landry & Friends.
Feb. 24: August Broussard & Friends.
The Liberty performance admission is $5 at the door.

Concealed handgun classes offered
Non-profit classes for aconcealed handgun permit are scheduled Feb. 17, March 17, April 14, May 12, June 23, July 21, Aug. 18, Sept. 15, Oct. 13, Nov. 10, and Dec. 8, at the Masonic Lodge, 211 W. Park Ave., Eunice, according to an announcement from Maj. Eddie Thibodeaux of the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office.
The courses include all the requirements needed for application to the state for a carrying a concealed handgun, but does not include the state fee.
The course cost $100 and a spouse may attend for another $80.
Classes start at 7:30 p.m. and include classroom instruction, applications, notary, fingerprints, firing range, a hot lunch, refreshments all day, and a certificate of completion as required by the state.
The course is taught by certified police instructors.
Participants should bring a photo identification, cash or check, handgun and a box of ammunition.
At this special price, space is limited call for reservations.

Free child car seat installation
Free installation of child car safety seats is being offered from 4 to 6 p.m. every Monday at Word Ministries, 1960 W. Laurel Ave., Eunice.
The seats will be installed by a nationally certified technicians.

Saturday programs at the Prairie Acadian Cultural Center
Saturday programs at the Prairie Acadian Cultural Center, 250 W. Park Ave., Eunice, are the Explore & Restore craft workshop for kids, from 10 a.m. to noon; Cajun Conversations meets 1 to 2:30 p.m. to learn and practice conversational Cajun French; Music and dancing kicks off at 2:45 p.m. and ends with the cooking demonstration and sampling at 4 p.m. Admission to the center and programs is free.
