True Vine fundraiser dinners Saturday
The True Vine COGIC will have a Barbecue dinner sale on Saturday.

Bulb Membership meeting Monday

Voter registration deadline is Feb. 21
The last day for persons to register to vote in the March 24 Municipal Primary Election will be at 4 p.m. Feb. 21 for in person-by mail registrations.
Voters may verify their current information by visiting the website geauxvote.com, or call a registrar of voters office. In St. Landry Parish, the registrar’s office number is 337-948-0572. In Acadia Parish, the registrar’s number is 337-788-8841.
Regular office hours for registrar offices are from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
The Acadia Parish Registrar of Voters Office, is located at 568 NW Court Circle, Crowley, Louisiana.
The St. Landry Parish Registrar of Voters office is in the St. Landry Parish Courthouse, 118 S. Court St., Suite 114, Opelousas.
Proper identification required for registering to vote is one of the followingdocuments: current Louisiana driver’s license, current Louisiana identification card, birth certificate and/or baptismal certificate.

LSUE library looking for book donations
The LeDoux Library at LSUE campus is currently accepting book donations for a library book sale to be held in April.

NAUW host Black History of Fame
The National Association of University Women St. Landry Branch will host its 27th annual Black History Hall of Fame program at 6 p.m. Feb. 22 at Little Zion Baptist Church, 128 North Academy St., Opelousas.
The program honors local individuals who are promoting positive images by serving and working in their communities.
These local African Americans will be inducted into the Black History Hall of Fame. The honorees are:
Cabbott Ballard, retired educator;
The Honorable Judge Vanessa Harris;
Superintendent Patrick Jenkins, St. Landry Parish Schools;
Grace Sibley, Educational Supervisor, Ville Platte;
Madeline Taylor, retired Teacher/Instructional specialist

Acadia election supervisors to meet
The Acadia Parish Board of Election Supervisors will meet in the Registrar of Voters Office, 568 NW Court Circle, Crowley, a at 10 a.m Feb. 23 to draw the commissioners for the March 24 Municipal Primary Election.
This meeting is open to the public.

Black History Quiz Bowl set Feb. 24
The Retired Educators Association of St. Landry Parish will sponsor its annual Black History Quiz Bowl on Feb. 24 at the St. Landry Parish School Board Supplementary Resource Center, in Opelousas. Doors will open at 8:30 a.m. for registration with competition at 9 a.m.
Copies of the Black History Quiz Bowl Study Guide can be accessed through either the principal or social studies teacher at the individual’s school.
Different aged-group and school categories will be judged and winners named with cash prizes. Certificates of participation will be awarded to all participants.

Lenten Day of Reflection set Feb. 17
A Lenton Day of Reflection, with a theme of Embracing Change, Maintaining Values will be held from 8:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. Feb. 17, at St. Pius X School Theatre.
Speakers will include the Rev. Chester C. Arceneaux, Katie Austin and Kessie Thomas.
Cost is $25 in advance, and $30 at the door, and will include a light breakfast, lunch, and snacks provided.

COA speaker to talk on Medicare Feb. 26
The St. Landry Council on Aging will have a speaker, Kathy Lacaze, to present information about Medicare program at 10 a.m. on Feb. 26 at the Opelousas Senior Center, 2419 James Eaglin, in Opelousas.

St. Landry Lifetime Achievement banquet
The St. Landry Parish Democratic Executive Committee will host its sixth annual St. Landry Lifetime Achievement banquet at 6 p.m. March 8 at the Opelousas Civic Center
This year’s honorees are Cheryl Milburn, Patricia Hertzock, Patti Kempf, and Rhyn Duplechain.
Invited special guests will be Senator Gerald Boudreaux and Representative Dustin Miller.
The general public is invited. Tickets for the event are $35 per person, with table seating six.

Rendez-Vous De Cajuns at Liberty
The Laissez Les Bons Temps Rouler Au Rendez-Vous De Cajuns is scheduled at the Liberty every from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday with live entertainment.
The Liberty opens at 4 p.m. the show begins at 6 p.m.

The Liberty performance admission is $5 at the door.

Concealed handgun classes offered
Non-profit classes for aconcealed handgun permit are scheduled Feb. 17, March 17, April 14, May 12, June 23, July 21, Aug. 18, Sept. 15, Oct. 13, Nov. 10, and Dec. 8, at the Masonic Lodge, 211 W. Park Ave., Eunice, according to an announcement from Maj. Eddie Thibodeaux of the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office.
The courses include all the requirements needed for application to the state for a carrying a concealed handgun, but does not include the state fee.
The course cost $100 and a spouse may attend for another $80.
Classes start at 7:30 p.m. and include classroom instruction, applications, notary, fingerprints, firing range, a hot lunch, refreshments all day, and a certificate of completion as required by the state.
The course is taught by certified police instructors.
Participants should bring a photo identification, cash or check, handgun and a box of ammunition.
At this special price, space is limited call for reservations.
