Acadia sheriff plans ‘Coffee’ at LSUE
Acadia Parish Sheriff KP Gibson is inviting everyone to “Coffee with the Sheriff” at 8 a.m. Saturday, Saturday LSUE Community Education Building.
Gibson will give an update on his office’s progress and have a question and answer session

Lenten fish dinners at Bishop Center
St. Mathilda Catholic Church members will continue to sell Fried fish and fish courtbouillon dinners through Lenten season every Friday from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. with a pick up at the Bishop Ceaser Center.
A donation of $8 will be accepted.

Revival at First Baptist Chataignier

St. Landry Lifetime Achievement banquet
The St. Landry Parish Democratic Executive Committee will hold its sixth annual St. Landry Lifetime Achievement banquet at 6 p.m. March 8 at the Opelousas Civic Center
This year’s honorees are Cheryl Milburn, Patricia Hertzock, Patti Kempf, and Rhyn Duplechain.
Invited special guests will be Sen. Gerald Boudreaux and Rep.Dustin Miller.
The public is invited. Tickets for the event are $35 per person, with table seating six.

Symphony Spring Concert set April 15
The Eunice Symphony Orchestra will present its Spring Concert themed, “Opening Night” at 6 p.m. April 15 at the Liberty Theater.
The spring concert “Opening Night”, promises to be entertaining its audience with different movie themed music. Some will include music from Mamma Mia, Forest Gump, Grease, and much more.
Tickets will be sold at the door at $5 each and children age 6 and under will be allowed free.

Rendez-Vous De Cajuns at Liberty
The Laissez Les Bons Temps Rouler Au Rendez-Vous De Cajuns is scheduled at the Liberty every from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday with live entertainment.
The Liberty opens at 4 p.m. the show begins at 6 p.m.

Concealed handgun classes offered
Non-profit classes for a concealed handgun permit are scheduled March 17, April 14, May 12, June 23, July 21, Aug. 18, Sept. 15, Oct. 13, Nov. 10, and Dec. 8, at the Masonic Lodge, 211 W. Park Ave., Eunice, according to an announcement from Maj. Eddie Thibodeaux of the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office.
The courses include all the requirements needed for application to the state for a carrying a concealed handgun, but does not include the state fee.
The course cost $100 and a spouse may attend for another $80.
Classes start at 7:30 a.m. and include classroom instruction, applications, notary, fingerprints, firing range, a hot lunch, refreshments all day, and a certificate of completion as required by the state.
The course is taught by certified police instructors.
Participants should bring a photo identification, cash or check, handgun and a box of ammunition.

Women’s Day program at NZBC
The 15th annual Women’s Day program will begin at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, March 17 at New Zion Baptist Church in Eunice.
The program is hosted by the Seventh District Baptist Association Women’s Auxiliary and the theme this year is “Christian Women Standing Strong & Firm.”
The guest speaker will be Chantelle Sylvester of Port Barre, where she is a member of St. Mary Missionary Baptist church.

Free child car seat installation
Free installation of child car safety seats is being offered from 4 to 6 p.m. every Monday at Word Ministries, 1960 W. Laurel Ave., Eunice.
The seats will be installed by a nationally certified technicians.

Saturday programs at the Prairie Acadian Cultural Center
Saturday programs at the Prairie Acadian Cultural Center, 250 W. Park Ave., Eunice, are the Explore & Restore craft workshop for kids, from 10 a.m. to noon; Cajun Conversations meets 1 to 2:30 p.m. to learn and practice conversational Cajun French; Music and dancing kicks off at 2:45 p.m. and ends with the cooking demonstration and sampling at 4 p.m. Admission to the center and programs is free.

VFW bingo held Thursdays, Sundays
The VFW Post 8971 holds bingo for the public at 7 p.m. every Thursday and Sunday at the VFW Hall located on U.S. 190 East. All proceeds from Bingo games goes back to the community.

Knights of Columbus sells white crosses
The Eunice Knights of Columbus Council 1745 is currently selling white crosses to be placed in yards.
The crosses are available from Bill Parrie at 251 N. 6th St., or at Bertrand’s Printing, or in front of St. Anthony Church after each morning Mass at 7 a.m., 9 a.m., and 11 a.m.
A $5 donation is requested.

Funeral honor guard for vets needs help
A foundation has been set for the St Landry Parish Veteran Funeral Honor Guard and now it needs donations to become a reality, according to Lincoln “Link” Savoie, coordinator.

Classes at NUNU
NUNU Arts and Culture Collective, 1510 Courtableau Highway, Arnaudville, opens enrollment for its NUNU yoU spring offering of classes. Saturday - 3 to 5 p.m., March 3, You are Your Own Doctor. How to prevent disease with Chinese natural therapy. Dr. Dan Liu, a retired medical doctor and acupuncturist discusses natural practices and applications for well being. Class concludes with home remedy for the flu and Alzheimer’s disease preventing movement and exercise. Participation requires a yoga mat, pen and paper for notes. Cost is $10.
Saturday - 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., April 14, Be Seated, chair weaving class with instructor Jo Rusin. Beginner’s class includes the flat reed, an easy to use material very similar to split oak. With the skills you will learn in this class, not only will you have a sit-able chair again, you will be ready to restore even more old chairs. Bring your lunch and enjoy a day of seat weaving.
