Teacher Job Fair is Saturday
St. Landry Parish Schools will hold its annual Teacher Job Fair from 9:30 a.m. to noon Saturday at Opelousas High School, 1014 Judson Walsh Drive, Opelousas.
All St. Landry Parish schools will be on site with information and answering questions. Newly hired certificated teachers are eligible for up to $3,000 in incentive pay. Additional incentive payouts could be also be included if hired by a TAP (Teacher Advancement Program) School. Interested teachers should come prepared to meet with staff and have their resume/cover letters on hand.
Auditions for EPT Children’s Theatre
Auditions for the children’s summer workshop at Eunice Players’ Theatre will be held Saturday, May 5, from 10 until noon, and again, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the theater, 121 S. 2nd St., Eunice. Children and youth ages 6-17 are invited to participate.
Actors and people to work behind the scenes are needed. Parents are invited to sign up to work backstage, or on the technical aspects (costumes, set, lighting and sound). Rehearsals will begin May 14. Production dates for the show will be June 13-17.

Community choir, band summer season announced
The Eunice Community Concert Band & Choir will begin the 2018 summer season.
Choir rehearsals begin May 7 at the First Baptist Church, Eunice. Concert Band rehearsals begin on May 8 at the Liberty Center.
Concert dates are July 12 and 13, Liberty Center.

Eunice will recognize National Day of Prayer with this year’s theme of “Pray for America-Unity” at 6 p.m. May 3 at Liberty Theater.

Come Lord Jesus Anniversary Mass is set for 6 p.m. May 15, at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church in Basile. A covered dish reception following at the Speyrer Hall.

EHS Class of 2018 Baccalaureate service
The EHS Class of 2018 Baccalaureate Services will be held at 2 p.m. May 13 at the New Zion Baptist Church in Eunice.
Practices will be held at 6 p.m. May 2, and May 9.
Elementary Pre-k registration dates set
All Eunice elementary schools (East, Eunice, Glendale and Highland) are conducting pre-k registration. Visit your child’s zoned school to sign up for a testing date.
In order to be eligible for Pre-k, a child must be four (4) years old on or before Sept. 30.
The following documents will be required on your child’s testing day to register for Pre-k:
–Child’s birth certificate
–Child’s immunization record (current)
–Proof of residency (utility bill with parents name and address)
–Proof of income: Bring one of the following:
Two consecutive check stubs, SNAP verification letter.
Concealed handgun classes offered
Non-profit classes for a concealed handgun permit are scheduled May 12, June 23, July 21, Aug. 18, Sept. 15, Oct. 13, Nov. 10, and Dec. 8, at the Masonic Lodge, 211 W. Park Ave., Eunice, according to an announcement from Maj. Eddie Thibodeaux of the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office.
The courses include all the requirements needed for application to the state for a carrying a concealed handgun, but does not include the state fee.
The course cost $100 and a spouse may attend for another $80.
Classes start at 7:30 a.m. and include classroom instruction, applications, notary, fingerprints, firing range, a hot lunch, refreshments all day, and a certificate of completion as required by the state.
The course is taught by certified police instructors.
Participants should bring a photo identification, cash or check, handgun and a box of ammunition.

IHS All Sports Backers fundraiser
The Iota High School All Sports Backers fundraiser, named “Prize-a-Palooza,” is underway.
Anyone who purchases a ticket has a chance to win one or more of 31 prizes.
Tickets are $50 each and only 1,000 will be sold.
Tickets can be purchase from any athlete at Iota High or at the IHS front office.
A drawing will be held every day, and coincide with the Pick Three numbers in July.

Nat. Postal carrier Food Drive May 12
The annual National US Postal carrier food drive is set for Saturday, May 12.
Those residents wishing to donate non perishable food items and canned goods are asked to leave a bag next to their mail box on this date.
All food items will be collected by a letter carrier and brought directly to the Eunice Food Bank.

Saturday programs at the Prairie Acadian Cultural Center
Saturday programs at the Prairie Acadian Cultural Center, 250 W. Park Ave., Eunice, are the Explore & Restore craft workshop for kids, from 10 a.m. to noon; Cajun Conversations meets 1 to 2:30 p.m. to learn and practice conversational Cajun French; Music and dancing kicks off at 2:45 p.m. and ends with the cooking demonstration and sampling at 4 p.m. Admission to the center and programs is free.

VFW bingo held Thursdays, Sundays
The VFW Post 8971 holds bingo for the public at 7 p.m. every Thursday and Sunday at the VFW Hall located on U.S. 190 East. All proceeds from Bingo games goes back to the community.
