Free back to school event set Thursday
Truthful Rehab Center from Opelousas will host a Back to School event free to the public beginning at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Southeast Center in Eunice.
The event will have guest speakers, free school supplies, and more.

St. Mathilda PoBoy fundraiser
The St. Mathilda KPC Knights & Ladies Auxiliary will have a PoBoy fundraiser sale from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. July 11 at the Bishop Ceaser Center.
A donation of $6 will be accepted.

ECCBC Summer Concert set July 12, 13
The Eunice Community Concert Band & Choir will present its 2018 Summer Concert “Curtain Call” at 7 p.m. July 12 and July 13 at the Liberty Center, downtown 2nd Street.
The concert will feature the community band and choir, children’s choir and an art exhibit by FACE (Fine Arts Council of Eunice).
Choir selections will be, “Put on Your Sunday Clothes (from Hello Dolly!)”, “Rhythm of Life”, “Shine on Us,” “Regards to Broadway”, “You Raise Me Up”, and “You Are My All in All.”
Concert band selections will include, “Bugler’s Holiday”, “Curtain Call”, “Gee Officer Krupke (from West Side Story),” “Popular (from Wicked)”, “Robin Hood Soundtrack Highlights,” and “Florentiner March.”
The children’s choir will sing “Just Be Happy.”

Back to School Health Fair set
New Hope Fellowship will have a Back to School Health Fair on Saturday, July 28 at 10 a.m. at the church, located at Sittig Road.
The public is invited. There will be free backpacks for all school age children, school supplies, free haircuts, immunization records, eye screening, face painting, bus safety, and fitness, health courses and a meal provided.

St. Luke Church will hold revival
Rev. Lloyd H. Antoine of St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church in Vidrine will hold a three-day revival from July 18 to 20 with services at 7 p.m.
Guests pastors from Oakdale, Eunice, and Lake Charles will deliver a message each evening.

Waiters to raise funds for Women United
Fun, frivolity and shenanigans will be the theme for the Men Who Wait on Women Who Wine, sponsored by Women United, an affinity group of St. Landry-Evangeline United Way.
The event is scheduled from 6 to 10 p.m. July 21 at the Delta Grand Theater, 120 N. Market St., Opelousas.
The evening is to feature distinguished “Waiters.” The waiter who brings in the most tips will win bragging rights for a year, the title of “Head Waiter” and a gift.
Wine and a steak dinner will be provided by Café Josephine.
Women United focuses on education, Dolly Parton Imagination Library, women, children and family issues.

EHS registration dates set
Eunice High School will hold registration from 8 until 11 a.m. Aug. 1 for 10th through 12th graders.
From 8 until 9:30 a.m. Aug. 2 there will be registration set for ninth graders. From 10 a.m. until noon registration is set for new students.

Male Chorus Musical set Aug 18
Greater True Light Baptist Church in Eunice invites the public to its 17th annual Male Chorus Musical at 6 p.m. Aug. 18.
During the church’s 8:30 a.m. service on Aug. 19, the 20th annual Brotherhood Men’s Day service will be recognized with a guest speaker Rev. Neil Citizen of Unity Family Worship Center of Eunice.

Anniversary of Charlene Richard, Mass set Aug. 3
The friends of Charlene Richard announces the date of the annual Mass of Petition marking the 59th anniversary of the death of Charlene Marie Richard. The mass will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 3 at St. Edward’s Church in Richard.
The Rev. Keith Pellerin, pastor of St. Phillip Neri Church in Kinder, will be the main celebrant.
This year’s celebration will begin at 5:30 p.m. with the praying of the Rosary, and immediately following the Mass there will be a reception in the hall

Benefit grants dreams to children
LAFAYETTE — Dreams Come True of Louisiana asks the public to join them at Acadiana Center for the Arts in Lafayette on Aug. 25 for the second annual Kids on the Katwalk sponsored by Giles Gives Back and 337 Media.
The nonprofit 501c3 organization grants dreams to Louisiana children with life threatening illnesses between the ages 3-18 years of age. Dreams Come True was established 36 years ago, and thanks to the many sponsors and volunteers, they’ve had the ability to make “dreams come true” for many terminally-ill children.
Dreams Kids will be model clothes from local boutiques as they strut the Katwalk for the annual fashion show. In addition to the show, there will also be live and silent auctions, cash bar by Ruffino’s on the River and music by child protégée, DJ Tutu. The event is from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., and tickets may be purchased for $40 a person or $75 per couple. Price includes hors d’oeuvres by Ruffino’s on the River and Another Broken Egg.
The organization is seeking donations of gift certificates or items from local businesses to include in the auction. There are also positions for local boutiques to dress the models for the fashion show, as well as sponsorship opportunities.
— Gold sponsorship is $2,000 and includes: Two tables of eight with a private server, and two bottles of wine.
— Silver sponsorship is $1,000 and includes: One table of eight and one bottle of wine.
— Bronze sponsorship is $500 and includes sponsor recognition.

Concealed handgun classes offered
Non-profit classes for a concealed handgun permit are scheduled July 21, Aug. 18, Sept. 15, Oct. 13, Nov. 10, and Dec. 8, at the Masonic Lodge, 211 W. Park Ave., Eunice, according to an announcement from Maj. Eddie Thibodeaux of the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office.
The courses include all the requirements needed for application to the state for a carrying a concealed handgun, but does not include the state fee.
The course cost $100 and a spouse may attend for another $80.
Classes start at 7:30 a.m. and include classroom instruction, applications, notary, fingerprints, firing range, a hot lunch, refreshments all day, and a certificate of completion as required by the state.
The course is taught by certified police instructors.
Participants should bring a photo identification, cash or check, handgun and a box of ammunition.
At this special price, space is limited call for reservations.

IHS All Sports Backers fundraiser
The Iota High School All Sports Backers fundraiser, named “Prize-a-Palooza,” is underway.
Anyone who purchases a ticket has a chance to win one or more of 31 prizes.
Tickets are $50 each and only 1,000 will be sold.
Tickets can be purchase from any athlete at Iota High or at the IHS front office.
A drawing will be held every day, and coincide with the Pick Three numbers in July.

Free child car seat installation
Free installation of child car safety seats is being offered from 4 to 6 p.m. every Monday at Word Ministries, 1960 W. Laurel Ave., Eunice.
The seats will be installed by a nationally certified technicians.

Saturday programs at the Prairie Acadian Cultural Center
Saturday programs at the Prairie Acadian Cultural Center, 250 W. Park Ave., Eunice, are the Explore & Restore craft workshop for kids, from 10 a.m. to noon; Cajun Conversations meets 1 to 2:30 p.m. to learn and practice conversational Cajun French; Music and dancing kicks off at 2:45 p.m. and ends with the cooking demonstration and sampling at 4 p.m. Admission to the center and programs is free.

VFW bingo held Thursdays, Sundays
The VFW Post 8971 holds bingo for the public at 7 p.m. every Thursday and Sunday at the VFW Hall located on U.S. 190 East. All proceeds from Bingo games goes back to the community.

A foundation has been set for the St Landry Parish Veteran Funeral Honor Guard and now it needs donations to become a reality, according to Lincoln “Link” Savoie, coordinator.
