Small business workshop set
Small Business Administration representative Heidi Melancon will hold training on services they provide for new small business and anyone interested in starting a new business from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Aug. 21 in the Continuing Education Building (Room C-116 and C-205) ).
The workshop is organized through the Eunice Economic Development Council.
St Landry Homestead is sponsoring the working lunch for the event.

CFMA offers scholarship
The CFMA (Cajun French Music Association) Acadiana Charter Chapter will award a $500 scholarship starting in the fall semester, $250 per semester.
Those interested, Applicants need to write a 500 word essay telling the chapter why they should be awarded the scholarship and what they know about the Cajun Culture, and why it is important to keep the present generation involved in the Cajun culture. A transcript of grades from last school attended and proof of enrollment for the semester needs to be included.

Individuals already attending college are eligible and you do not have to be a recent high school graduate, and you do not have to be a CFMA member or relative.

VFW Post 8971 Vets Appreciation Fun Day
The VFW Post 8971 Veteran’s Appreciation Family Fun Day will be held from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Monday, Sept. 3, at the VFW Hall, across from Eunice High School.
There will be fun for the entire family. Bring your DD214 and family. There will be hot dogs, burgers, sno cones, ice cream, fun jumps an much more.

Survivorman event set Sept. 14 at ABC
Would your boys know how to get back to civilization if they became lost? They should never be in the wilderness without a buddy, someone to watch their back, hold the other end of the rope, to go for help. Acadian Baptist Center near Richard will present a two-day event, Survivorman, Sept. 14-15, for boys in first through sixth-grade grade and their dads.
The boys will participate in fast-paced, action-packed practical training on avoiding being lost, what to do when lost, and land navigation, as well as other fun activities.
Cost is $45 per person and includes meals and lodging.

LeDoux Library accepts donations
The LeDoux Library on LSUE campus is accepting and collecting book donations and plans are to have a used book sale in conjunction with The Experience Louisiana Festival in October.

Registration for CCD classes at St. Anthony
Registration for Catechism classes at St. Anthony Catholic Church is currently underway. Returning families may register by mail or in person.
All new families will need to register in person during business hours on Monday and Tuesdays.

NAUW uniform drive set

ELTL fall registration set
The Eunice Ladies Tennis League (ELTL) will hold fall registration beginning Monday and continues through Aug. 24.
Registration can be done at the Eunice City Mayor’s office, or by calling ELTL president Katharine Batiste at 512-658-7858.
The first tennis match will be Sept. 4 and all matches will conclude on Nov. 20. All games are played at 6 p.m. on Tuesdays.
Registration fees are $25 and includes an end of the season tennis banquet.
Anyone 18 years and older are welcomed to play.

St. Luke celebrates chorus night Aug. 25

Annunciation Bazaar set Sept. 15 & 16
The Annunciation Church Bazaar will be held Saturday, Sept. 15 and Sunday, Sept. 16 at the church grounds, located at 4476 Duralde Hwy., Eunice.

Miss Eunice sponsors a camp Sept. 8
Miss Eunice Jenna Godeau will sponsor a camp No Child Left Behind at the Acadian Baptist Center from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8.

Male Chorus Musical set Aug. 18
Greater True Light Baptist Church in Eunice invites the public to its 17th annual Male Chorus Musical at 6 p.m. Aug. 18.
During the church’s 8:30 a.m. service on Aug. 19, the 20th annual Brotherhood Men’s Day service will be recognized with a guest speaker Rev. Neil Citizen of Unity Family Worship Center of Eunice.

Benefit grants dreams to children
LAFAYETTE — Dreams Come True of Louisiana asks the public to join them at Acadiana Center for the Arts in Lafayette on Aug. 25 for the second annual Kids on the Katwalk sponsored by Giles Gives Back and 337 Media.
The nonprofit 501c3 organization grants dreams to Louisiana children with life threatening illnesses between the ages 3-18 years of age. Dreams Come True was established 36 years ago, and thanks to the many sponsors and volunteers, they’ve had the ability to make “dreams come true” for many terminally-ill children.
Dreams Kids will be model clothes from local boutiques as they strut the Katwalk for the annual fashion show. In addition to the show, there will also be live and silent auctions, cash bar by Ruffino’s on the River and music by child protégée, DJ Tutu. The event is from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., and tickets may be purchased for $40 a person or $75 per couple. Price includes hors d’oeuvres by Ruffino’s on the River and Another Broken Egg.
The organization is seeking donations of gift certificates or items from local businesses to include in the auction. There are also positions for local boutiques to dress the models for the fashion show, as well as sponsorship opportunities.
— Gold sponsorship is $2,000 and includes: Two tables of eight with a private server, and two bottles of wine.
— Silver sponsorship is $1,000 and includes: One table of eight and one bottle of wine.
— Bronze sponsorship is $500 and includes sponsor recognition.

Concealed handgun classes offered
Non-profit classes for a concealed handgun permit are scheduled Aug. 18, Sept. 15, Oct. 13, Nov. 10, and Dec. 8, at the Masonic Lodge, 211 W. Park Ave., Eunice, according to an announcement from Maj. Eddie Thibodeaux of the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office.
The courses include all the requirements needed for application to the state for a carrying a concealed handgun, but does not include the state fee.
The course cost $100 and a spouse may attend for another $80.
Classes start at 7:30 a.m. and include classroom instruction, applications, notary, fingerprints, firing range, a hot lunch, refreshments all day, and a certificate of completion as required by the state.
The course is taught by certified police instructors.
Participants should bring a photo identification, cash or check, handgun and a box of ammunition.

Free child car
seat installation
Free installation of child car safety seats is being offered from 4 to 6 p.m. every Monday at Word Ministries, 1960 W. Laurel Ave., Eunice.
The seats will be installed by a nationally certified technicians.

Saturday programs at the Prairie Acadian Cultural Center
Saturday programs at the Prairie Acadian Cultural Center, 250 W. Park Ave., Eunice, are the Explore & Restore craft workshop for kids, from 10 a.m. to noon; Cajun Conversations meets 1 to 2:30 p.m. to learn and practice conversational Cajun French; Music and dancing kicks off at 2:45 p.m. and ends with the cooking demonstration and sampling at 4 p.m. Admission to the center and programs is free.

VFW bingo held Thursdays, Sundays
The VFW Post 8971 holds bingo for the public at 7 p.m. every Thursday and Sunday at the VFW Hall located on U.S. 190 East. All proceeds from Bingo games goes back to the community.
