U.S. representative to hold town hall
U.S. Rep. Mike Johnson, R-Benton, will host a town hall from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday at the Sunset Community Center, 108 Leo Richard Lane, Sunset.
Security will be present at the town hall event. No signs or obstructions will be permitted inside.
Johnson is serving his first term in the U.S. House of Representatives. He sits on the House Judiciary Committee as well as the Committee on Natural Resources. He was elected in December 2016.

Highland sponsors school supply drive
Highland Elementary will have a school supply drive for Eunice Elementary’s students and teachers.
Anyone wishing to donate supplies can do at a drop off, which is in a designated container located near the school’s front office.

DSAA Buddy Walk set for Oct. 27
The Down Syndrome Association of Acadiana will have its 14th annual Buddy Walk on Oct. 27 from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Parc International, 200 Garfield Street, downtown Lafayette.
Registration begins at 9 a.m.
Cost is $15 per person.

EHS Bobcat Auction set Oct. 16
The annual Eunice High School Bobcat Auction, sponsored by the EHS Booster Club. will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, at the Northwest Community Center.
It will be broadcast on 105-5 KEUN, streaming on ustream.com (search for “KEUN RADIO”), and audio will be live on Charter Cable channel 198. Items may be viewed on Facebook (EHS Booster Club Auction 2018).
Gumbo will be served for a small fee. A cash bar will be available.
There will be a silent auction going on at Northwest Community Center during the live auction with many other great items to view and bid on.

KEB looks for litter free volunteers
Keep Eunice Beautiful is looking for four volunteers to take part in the annual Community Litter Index.
You will be taken to 50 neighborhoods over a two day period from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m., Oct. 1 and Oct. 2.
You will be trained to “score” each area as to the level of litter seen. This information will be given to the city and code enforcement officer. This is an annual event required by Keep America Beautiful.

LeDoux Library accepts donations
The LeDoux Library on LSUE campus is accepting and collecting book donations and plans are to have a used book sale in conjunction with The Experience Louisiana Festival in October.

Benefit trail ride set for Sept. 22
The fifth annual Benefit trail ride for the Eunice Community Health Center will be held beginning at 9 a.m. Sept. 22 at the Northwest Community Center pavilion in Eunice.
Registration begins at 7 a.m. and ride will leave at 9 a.m.
Admission is $15 and will include lunch. Refreshments will be sold. There will be an auction during lunch.
The ride is sponsored by the Le Vieux Mardi Gras De Cajuns de Eunice.

Rendez-Vous De Cajuns at Liberty
The Laissez Les Bons Temps Rouler Au Rendez-Vous De Cajuns is scheduled at the Liberty every from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday with live entertainment.
The Liberty opens at 4 p.m. the show begins at 6 p.m.

St. Luke church anniversary set
St. Luke Baptist Church in Vidrine will celebrate its 90th year church anniversary at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5 and at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7.
Guest speaker for Friday evening will be Rev. Russel Kaough from Victory Millennium Ministries in Ville Platte. The Sunday service guest speaker will be Bishop Gerald Simon from Grace Christian Center in Glenmora.

DAV volunteer drivers needed
The DAV (Disabled American Veterans) is in dire need of volunteer drivers to drive veterans from Eunice to Alexandria.

Concealed handgun classes offered
Non-profit classes for a concealed handgun permit are scheduled Oct. 13, Nov. 10, and Dec. 8, at the Masonic Lodge, 211 W. Park Ave., Eunice, according to an announcement from Maj. Eddie Thibodeaux of the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office.
The courses include all the requirements needed for application to the state for a carrying a concealed handgun, but does not include the state fee.
The course cost $100 and a spouse may attend for another $80.
Classes start at 7:30 a.m. and include classroom instruction, applications, notary, fingerprints, firing range, a hot lunch, refreshments all day, and a certificate of completion as required by the state.
The course is taught by certified police instructors.
Participants should bring a photo identification, cash or check, handgun and a box of ammunition.

Free child car
seat installation
Free installation of child car safety seats is being offered from 4 to 6 p.m. every Monday at Word Ministries, 1960 W. Laurel Ave., Eunice.
The seats will be installed by a nationally certified technicians.

Saturday programs at the Prairie Acadian Cultural Center
Saturday programs at the Prairie Acadian Cultural Center, 250 W. Park Ave., Eunice, are the Explore & Restore craft workshop for kids, from 10 a.m. to noon; Cajun Conversations meets 1 to 2:30 p.m. to learn and practice conversational Cajun French; Music and dancing kicks off at 2:45 p.m. and ends with the cooking demonstration and sampling at 4 p.m. Admission to the center and programs is free.

VFW bingo held Thursdays, Sundays
The VFW Post 8971 holds bingo for the public at 7 p.m. every Thursday and Sunday at the VFW Hall located on U.S. 190 East. All proceeds from Bingo games goes back to the community.

A foundation has been set for the St Landry Parish Veteran Funeral Honor Guard and now it needs donations to become a reality, according to Lincoln “Link” Savoie, coordinator.
