DSAA Buddy Walk set for Oct. 27
The Down Syndrome Association of Acadiana will have its 14th annual Buddy Walk on Oct. 27 from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Parc International, 200 Garfield Street, downtown Lafayette.
Registration begins at 9 a.m.
Cost is $15 per person.

Satellite Club to hold political forum

Trick or Treat downtown set Oct. 31
The sixth annual Trick or Treat will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 31 beginning at corner of Laurel Avenue and South 2nd Street.
There will be booths along the way with goodies and activities for children. Children, age 12 & under, must wear costumes, and must be accompanied by an adult.
Every business is welcomed to participate and can do so by registering at Patrick’s Full Service Salon at 130 W. Walnut.

LSUE Performing Arts event set Oct. 25
There will be a free Performing Arts, BlackSmith, at 6 p.m. on Thursday at the LSUE auditorium of the Health Tech Building.
Blacksmith is a spoken word collective from Lafayette, Louisiana. The collective prides itself on being as authentic in their art as possible. This powerful trio presents the art form of spoken word through creative writing/speaking through the venue of Hip Hop to students and adults in local communities.

Family Fun Day at Pilgrim Rest Baptist
Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in Richard will host a Family Fun Day from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Oct. 27.
There will be hayrides, face painting, fun jumps, interactive games and other activities for children and families.
There will also be live Southern gospel music and the event will conclude with an auction.

Ashley Lodge to host Charity Ball Oct. 27
The Ashley Lodge 232 will hold its annual Ashley Lodge 232 Mason’s Charity Ball from 8 p.m. until 1 a.m. Oct. 27 at the Northwest Community Center in Eunice.
Every year Ashley Lodge 232 creates and participates in projects to help better the community of Eunice and the surrounding areas of St Landry Parish by donating school supplies to Eunice Junior High School and other students in St Landry Parish, giving bicycles to children with special needs at Christmas time, donating Thanksgiving baskets to families in need, and other volunteer projects to better the community like Neighborhood Enhancement, Special Needs, Senior citizen programs, and assisting the sick and shut in.

Blessing of Carron Cemetery set Nov. 4
The annual blessing of the graves will be conducted at Carron Cemetery at noon Sunday, Nov. 4 by a representative of St. Thomas More Catholic Church.
The Carron Cemetery Family Alliance (CCFA) encourages all descendants of people buried there to prepare for the event by cleaning/painting the family grave sites, as well as maintaining any nearby graves which appear to have no family left or able to perform this task.
One of the oldest cemeteries in the Eunice area, Carron Cemetery existed before the founding of the City of Eunice and has five soldiers interred there who served in The War Between The States.
The CCFA is a group of descendants related by blood or marriage to those buried at Carron.
The group’s purpose is to preserve this historic cemetery and increase family awareness of the need for continued upkeep of their ancestor’s graves.

DAV volunteer drivers needed
The DAV (Disabled American Veterans) is in dire need of volunteer drivers to drive veterans from Eunice to Alexandria.
Those interested, and one does Not have to be a veteran, are asked to call Miguel Pousson at 337-396-6392 for more information and details.

Concealed handgun classes offered
Non-profit classes for a concealed handgun permit are scheduled Nov. 10, and Dec. 8, at the Masonic Lodge, 211 W. Park Ave., Eunice, according to an announcement from Maj. Eddie Thibodeaux of the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office.
The courses include all the requirements needed for application to the state for a carrying a concealed handgun, but does not include the state fee.
The course cost $100 and a spouse may attend for another $80.
Classes start at 7:30 a.m. and include classroom instruction, applications, notary, fingerprints, firing range, a hot lunch, refreshments all day, and a certificate of completion as required by the state.
The course is taught by certified police instructors.
Participants should bring a photo identification, cash or check, handgun and a box of ammunition.

Free child car seat installation
Free installation of child car safety seats is being offered from 4 to 6 p.m. every Monday at Word Ministries, 1960 W. Laurel Ave., Eunice.
The seats will be installed by a nationally certified technicians.

Saturday programs at the Prairie Acadian Cultural Center
Saturday programs at the Prairie Acadian Cultural Center, 250 W. Park Ave., Eunice, are the Explore & Restore craft workshop for kids, from 10 a.m. to noon; Cajun Conversations meets 1 to 2:30 p.m. to learn and practice conversational Cajun French; Music and dancing kicks off at 2:45 p.m. and ends with the cooking demonstration and sampling at 4 p.m. Admission to the center and programs is free.

VFW bingo held Thursdays, Sundays
The VFW Post 8971 holds bingo for the public at 7 p.m. every Thursday and Sunday at the VFW Hall located on U.S. 190 East. All proceeds from Bingo games goes back to the community.

A foundation has been set for the St Landry Parish Veteran Funeral Honor Guard and now it needs donations to become a reality, according to Lincoln “Link” Savoie, coordinator.
