Toys for Tots drive currently underway
The annual Toys for Tots drive in Eunice is underway.
The Eunice Fire Department, at the central station located at 100 Park Avenue, will accept application now until Nov. 30 each day from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m.
Those families that receive government assistance are eligible to apply. You are asked to bring a picture ID, along with a proof of assistance to the central station.
Only parents and legal guardians are eligible to apply. The public is invited to donate toys, bring in new ones, unwrapped, to the central fire station during this application period.

Basketball registration
The Eunice Rec invites youth ages 5 to 12 to register to play basketball.
Registration is until 5 p.m. Dec. 1 online at eunicerec.com.
First-time users should select“Create Account” in the upper right hand corner.
Registration is $25 per player and is paid by debit or credit card online (Discover and American Express are not accepted).
In office registration will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Nov. 27 to 29.
Player evaluations will be Dec. 6 and the season will begin Jan. 5, 2019.
Eunice Rec participants ages 9-12 will have an opportunity to play in Little Dribbler All Stars, allowing players to compete against other towns in a state tournament.

Rendez-Vous De Cajuns at Liberty
The Laissez Les Bons Temps Rouler Au Rendez-Vous De Cajuns is scheduled at the Liberty every from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday with live entertainment.
The Liberty opens at 4 p.m. the show begins at 6 p.m.
For the month of November bands include:
Nov. 17: Wallace Trahan & Rice N Gravy.
Nov. 24: Kenneth Benoit & the Gravel Road Band.
The Liberty performance admission is $5 at the door.

Food drive at Super 1
TYLER, Texas, Oct. 31 – Brookshire Grocery Co.’s 37th annual Spirit of Christmas Food Drive begins today with the goal to help thousands of people in need within the close to 150 communities served by BGC stores.
Through Dec. 20, all Brookshire’s, Super 1 Foods, Spring Market and FRESH by Brookshire’s stores will collect donations of non-perishable food items to be donated to local service organizations and food pantries for distribution. Pre-assembled grab bags of food items will be available to purchase and donate to the drive, and monetary donations can be made using scan coupons at checkout. Funds collected will be used to purchase additional food items for the drive.
“Giving back to the communities that support our stores has always been central to who we are as a company,” said Brad Brookshire, chairman and CEO for Brookshire Grocery Co. “Supporting hunger relief is one of our primary focus areas for charitable giving, and we are proud to host the Spirit of Christmas Food Drive to help individuals who are at risk. With the generous support of our customers and local service organizations, we hope to assist 16,000 households this holiday season.”
Brookshire Grocery Co. began sponsoring the Spirit of Christmas Food Drive in 1982 in partnership with the Rose City Kiwanis Club in Tyler, Texas. The food drive now assists approximately 16,000 households each year, providing about a half-million pounds of food to people in need throughout the company’s market areas.

DAV volunteer drivers needed
The DAV (Disabled American Veterans) is in dire need of volunteer drivers to drive veterans from Eunice to Alexandria.

Concealed handgun classes offered
Non-profit classes for a concealed handgun permit is scheduled Dec. 8 at the Masonic Lodge, 211 W. Park Ave., Eunice, according to an announcement from Maj. Eddie Thibodeaux of the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office.
The courses include all the requirements needed for application to the state for a carrying a concealed handgun, but does not include the state fee.
The course cost $100 and a spouse may attend for another $80.
Classes start at 7:30 a.m. and include classroom instruction, applications, notary, fingerprints, firing range, a hot lunch, refreshments all day, and a certificate of completion as required by the state.
The course is taught by certified police instructors.
Participants should bring a photo identification, cash or check, handgun and a box of ammunition.

Free child car seat installation
Free installation of child car safety seats is being offered from 4 to 6 p.m. every Monday at Word Ministries, 1960 W. Laurel Ave., Eunice.
The seats will be installed by a nationally certified technicians.

Saturday programs at the Prairie Acadian Cultural Center
Saturday programs at the Prairie Acadian Cultural Center, 250 W. Park Ave., Eunice, are the Explore & Restore craft workshop for kids, from 10 a.m. to noon; Cajun Conversations meets 1 to 2:30 p.m. to learn and practice conversational Cajun French; Music and dancing kicks off at 2:45 p.m. and ends with the cooking demonstration and sampling at 4 p.m. Admission to the center and programs is free.

VFW bingo held Thursdays, Sundays
The VFW Post 8971 holds bingo for the public at 7 p.m. every Thursday and Sunday at the VFW Hall located on U.S. 190 East. All proceeds from Bingo games goes back to the community.

Evangeline Parish adult education classes
The Evangeline Parish adult education classes will be offered from 5 to 8 p.m. every Monday at the Basile police station.

Funeral honor guard for vets needs help
A foundation has been set for the St Landry Parish Veteran Funeral Honor Guard and now it needs donations to become a reality, according to Lincoln “Link” Savoie, coordinator.
