Triad workshop set in Port Barre
A Triad workshop will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church Hall located at 417 Saizan Ave Port Barre.
Triad is an agreement between the National Sheriff’s Association, International Association of Chief’s of Police and the American Association of Retired Persons. It was implemented to protect our senior citizens through activities that inform them of the latest fraud and scam’s tactics.
In April of 1994 St. Landry Sheriff’s Office, AARP and 10 municipal Chiefs of Police in St. Landry Parish signed the first Triad agreement. St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office has spearheaded the Triad by sponsoring the crime prevention workshops.
A workshop is a day of information on fraud, identity theft, drugs awareness, personal safety, and other safety issues concerning our senior citizens. Workshops are held throughout the parish to reach all of our senior citizens. Groups average around 250 during the workshops and 400 to 500 at the Triad Christmas Party in December. After the workshops guests are treated to free lunch with all the trimmings donated by the sheriff. The workshop also includes door prizes from the sheriff, area merchants, and health care providers ranging from home decorations, personal items, to security equipment. The day is completed with games of bingo for more prizes. The grand prize is a check for $100 donated by St. Landry Crime Stoppers. The winner has to be 60 or older.
Jim Donelon Com. of Ins, Amanda Larkins with AG Office, and Doctor Eliza Tater will be the guest speakers.

“This exhibit is a wonderful showcase of beautiful birds such as roseate spoonbills, egrets, kingfishers, herons, and even the bald eagle. In addition, dragonflies, alligators, and cottonmouth snakes that are featured. All of this wildlife can be seen at Lake Martin, in and around the Atchafalaya basin, and along Louisiana waterways, but these photographs give you up close details that you may not catch without the use of a camera,” said Park Guide Angelle Bellard.
Izzo was born in Troy, New York, and grew up in Peru, Illinois. He studied music and photography at Western Illinois University and in 1988 moved to Lafayette. In 2007, Izzo earned the degree of Certified Professional Photographer from the Professional Photographers of America. He teaches photography classes at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette’s Potpourri continuing education division; his photographic favorites are Ansel Adams’ landscapes and the portrait work of Kenny Rogers.
Meyers has been an avid fisherman and sportsman since an early age, developing a love for nature and wildlife. His early days of film photography came to a halt when his camera took a dunk in the swamp and repairs were too costly, but when digital photography arrived he used his knowledge of wildlife behavior to capture remarkable moments. Meyers said, “Wildlife and nature photography is challenging but it’s very rewarding at be able to freeze a split second in time and even more rewarding to be able to share it with others.” Meyers’ work can be seen at facebook.com/imagehunter1naturephotography/ and flickr.com/photos/ImageHunter1
