St. Louis Cemetery asking for donations
The St. Louis Cemetery, located at the corner of St. Louis Road and Sittig in Eunice is seeking donations for the upkeep and maintenance of the cemetery. The cemetery strictly operates by donations and volunteers. The cemetery is not a private one.

ECCBC reschedules concert July 28
The Eunice Community Choir, Concert Band & Children’s Choir has rescheduled its Summer Concert “Zazz” for 6 p.m. Sunday, July 28 at the Liberty Center.
Tickets purchased for the original dates July 11 and July 12 will be honored on July 28 performance.
Tickets are available at the door for $5 for adults and $2 for children under 12. Call 457-1776 for more information.
There will be rehearsals on July 24 at 6 p.m.
Player’s Theatre presents Godspell
This summer’s production of Godspell at the Eunice Players’ Theatre will include eight 7 p.m. shows and one 2 p.m. matinee.
Opening night is Tuesday, July 16 with the run continuing nightly through Friday, July 19. The theatre will be dark Saturday, July 20 and will reopen Sunday, July 21 for the matinee.
Evening performances will follow on Monday, July 22; Tuesday, July 23; Thursday, July 25; and Saturday, July 27.

Player’s Theatre to hold auditions
Eunice Players’ Theatre will hold auditions for the third play of the 50th season, “Crimes Of The Heart” from 6:30 until 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 24,, and Saturday, July 27, from 10:00 to 11:30 am.
Director Jody L. Powell needs 4 women and 2 men, age range 20s to 30s, to fill the cast. More people are needed to assist with set decoration, backstage duties, costuming, etc.
Auditions for this touching family comedy, written by Beth Henley, are open to everyone who wants to get involved with their local community theatre, regardless of prior acting experience.
Auditions will be at the theatre, 121 S. Second Street. Rehearsals will begin in August, with the show running in mid-September.

United Way/Women United presents event
United Way/Women United will present “Men Who Wait on Women Who Wine”, from 6 until 10 p.m. Saturday, July 27 at the Opelousas Civic Center.
Tickets are $40 and all proceeds go to benefit the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, a child literacy program that has placed 98,000 books in the hands of young children in our community, age 0-5 since its launch in 2008. This program was started in Eunice by the late Ms. Jean McManus.
This event promises to be an evening of fun as elected officials and community leaders serve up a delicious meal, entertain, and compete for tips and the title of “Head Waiter.”
A Silent Auction will be included, as well as live entertainment; and the “Man with Heart” award will be bestowed on a St. Landry Parish and an Evangeline Parish man recognized for their generous and compassionate heart and community engagement.

LSUE offers Praxis math review
LSU Eunice Continuing Education is offering a mathematics review course for the Praxis Exam. The course will be daily the week of July 15 between 1 and 3 p.m. on the LSUE campus.
The course, taught by LSUE math instructor Gloria Hernandez-Martel, will review content found on the Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators: Mathematics Exam.
Praxis Core Academic Skills: Mathematics Review will begin with a pretest so that the instructor can focus on the needs of the participants. Each class meeting will focus on one of the following subject areas: Number Sense & Operations, Algebra & Functions, Geometry, and Probability & Statistics - emphasizing the topics participants struggled with on the pretest.

Farmers Market at DMV parking lot
The Eunice Farmers’ Market is held in the DMV parking lot, and normally is open from 9 a.m. until noon on Saturdays.
However, on the third Saturday of each month the market is joined by outside vendors and the market remains open until 3 p.m. The market always has fresh produce, honey, and canned goods. On third Saturdays there are also baked goods and arts and crafts.

Rolling crops field tour set for July 25
BUNKIE — A rolling crops field tour by the LSU AgCenter along with state and federal agencies will be held July 25 in St. Landry and Avoyelles parishes.
Participants in the event will include the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry, the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service.
The tour will start at Nutrien Ag Solutions near Bunkie at 1970 La. 29. LSU AgCenter vehicles will be provided for traveling to five locations, with departure no later than 8:05 a.m.
The stops will include the James Deshotel farm near Bunkie for presentations on sweet potatoes; the Steele tree farm near Bunkie; the Charles Fontenot farm near Palmetto for rice and soybeans; Delano Plantation for cattle and hay; and the Cannatella farm near Melville for corn and sugarcane.
LSUE Testing Center offers HiSET exam
The newly opened Testing Center on the LSU Eunice campus has expanded its offerings after being named a HiSET (GED) testing site.
The HiSET exam is a test used to measure high school equivalency skills. It is designed for out-of-school youth and adults without a high school diploma.
The LSUE Testing Center added HiSET and CLEP to its lineup of exams that it proctors. LSUE also offers Accuplacer, Peregrine, TEAS, and proctored exams for LSUE and non-LSUE college students.
The Center is open Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. and is located on the first floor of the LSUE LeDoux Library.

Hour of Prayer at New Zion Baptist Church
The New Zion Missionary Baptist Church invites the public to an Hour of Power Prayer every Thursday at 11:30 a.m. at the J.G. Frank, Senior Christian Life Center, located at 251 Nimitz in Eunice.

Prairie Acadian Cultural Center hosts photo exhibit
The Prairie Acadian Cultural Center hosts the photographic work of Danny Izzo and Gary Meyers, featuring Louisiana birds and wildlife, through July 31. Admission to the exhibit and to the center is free and open to the public.

“This exhibit is a wonderful showcase of beautiful birds such as roseate spoonbills, egrets, kingfishers, herons, and even the bald eagle. In addition, dragonflies, alligators, and cottonmouth snakes that are featured. All of this wildlife can be seen at Lake Martin, in and around the Atchafalaya basin, and along Louisiana waterways, but these photographs give you up close details that you may not catch without the use of a camera,” said Park Guide Angelle Bellard.
Izzo was born in Troy, New York, and grew up in Peru, Illinois. He studied music and photography at Western Illinois University and in 1988 moved to Lafayette. In 2007, Izzo earned the degree of Certified Professional Photographer from the Professional Photographers of America. He teaches photography classes at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette’s Potpourri continuing education division; his photographic favorites are Ansel Adams’ landscapes and the portrait work of Kenny Rogers.
Meyers has been an avid fisherman and sportsman since an early age, developing a love for nature and wildlife. His early days of film photography came to a halt when his camera took a dunk in the swamp and repairs were too costly, but when digital photography arrived he used his knowledge of wildlife behavior to capture remarkable moments. The center is open 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and Saturday 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. The center is closed on all federal holidays but open on Mardi Gras. Admission to the Prairie Acadian Cultural Center is free and all activities and demonstrations are free and open to the public.
Joseph Celestine/Rosenwald reunion

Free child car seat installation
Free installation of child car safety seats is being offered from 4 to 6 p.m. every Monday at Word Ministries, 1960 W. Laurel Ave., Eunice.
The seats will be installed by a nationally certified technicians.
VFW bingo held Thursdays, Sundays
The VFW Post 8971 holds bingo for the public at 7 p.m. every Thursday and Sunday at the VFW Hall located on U.S. 190 East. All proceeds from Bingo games goes back to the community.
