Mt. Olive Cemetery volunteers needed
Families of the Mount Olive Cemetery, located at 1199 E. Ardoin (on Old Crowley Road), are in dire need of volunteers for lawn maintenance, grass mowing, and up keep of the cemetery. It is a public cemetery, established many years ago.
Family members of families buried at this cemetery are asked to help in the upkeep.

ELTL registration is underway
The ELTL (Eunice Ladies Tennis League) fall registration is underway.
High school senior girls and women 18 years and older are welcomed to join fall tennis league. One has to be knowledgeable on tennis skills, keeping scores and tennis etiquette to join.
Registration continues through Aug. 30. Dues are $25, which includes 12-weeks of playing and a banquet. Register at Eunice City Mayor’s office or by calling 337-580-1954 or 337-207-1869.
Tennis matches are played every Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. in Eunice. First match is set tentatively for Sept. 10.
Democratic Women plan campaign event
The St. Landry Federation of Democratic Women will hold its annual “Meet and Greet Democratic
Candidates” at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Opelousas Civic Center on 1638 Creswell Lane, Opelousas.
The event is to give democratic candidates the opportunity to educate the voters of St. Landry Parish on the philosophy and issues of their platforms. In addition, voters will have the opportunity to have small group Q&A sessions with participating candidates.
All Democratic candidates are invited to participate.
The public is invited.
There will also be an opportunity to register to vote on-site and refreshments will be served.

CDA Court 208 to meet Aug. 26
Court Eunice 208, Catholic Daughters of the Americas will meet at 6 p.m. Monday at Saint Thomas More Education building.
Enter through the north entrance facing Sittig St. Catholic Ladies at least 18 years old, are invited to come learn about CDA.

Church of Annunciaiton bazaar set Sept. 14, 15
The Church of Annunciation in Duralde will hold its annual bazaar on Saturday, Sept. 14 and Sunday, Sept. 15 at the church grounds located at 4476 Duralde Hwy, Eunice.
A Bingo and Burgers event is set for the Saturday in the church hall following the 4 p.m. Mass.
Sunday’s events include the barbecue plate lunches, burgers, cold beverages, and sweets. Plate lunches will be available following the 9 a.m. Mass.
A live auction and silent auction will be held along with a raffle. Kiddie games and fun jumps will provide activities for the youth. The live auction begins at 1.

Zydeco festival set at Yambilee
The 37th Annual Original Southwest Louisiana Zydeco Music Festival will be held Aug. 30 and 31 in Opelousas.
This year’s theme is “All Road Lead to Opelousas, its Zydeco Country.”
On Aug. 30, a kick-off dance is scheduled at 9 a.m. at Evangeline Downs with Jeremy Fruge & the Zydeco Hot Boyz and DJ Troy Dee.
On Aug. 31, there will be a Zydeco Breakfast from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Opelousas Courthouse Square and a parade to the Yambilee. Mike Broussard and Nu Edition is to peform at the breakfast
A zydeco dance and accordion contest is planned from noon to 10 p.m.
Bands scheduled Saturday beginning at noon include:
Nathan Williams and Zydeco Chas Chas;
Geno Delafose and French Rockin Boogie;
Lil Nate and the Zydeco Big Timers;
Step Rideau and The Zydeco Outlaws; and
Leroy Thomas and The Zydeco Roadrunners.
Gates open at 11 a.m. Admission is $15 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under.
Bulb & Blossom meeting set Sept. 3
The Eunice Bulb and Blossom Garden Club will have a meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3 at the home of Lonell White.
The topic will be the City’s 125th celebration and how the Garden Club can be involved.
All members are asked to call to RSVP by Aug. 30 for a dinner headcount.

EHS Bobcat Auction set for Sept. 17
The annual Eunice High School Bobcat Auction, sponsored by the EHS Booster Club, will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17 at Nick’s on 2nd.
It will be broadcast on 105-5 KEUN. Items may be viewed on Facebook (EHS Booster Club Auction 2019). Auction viewers and participants are invited and welcomed to come to the event and view the auction live.
Gumbo will be served for a small fee and a cash bar will be available.
There will be a ticket raffle going on at Nick’s on 2nd during the live auction with many items to choose from.

ABC presents Survivor Man event
Does your young boy know how to walk through life making wise decisions?
Acadian Baptist Center of Eunice will present a two-day event, SurvivorMan, Sept. 13-14, for boys in 1st through 6th grade and their dads.
Activities include Awareness/Protection/Self-Confidence/Walking-In-Wisdom Safety, Rifle Training, and other fun activities.

Voter registration deadlines listed
Cheryl Milburn, St. Landry Parish registrar of voters, has announced that the last day to register to vote in person or by mail for the Oct. 12 election will be Sept. 11.
The deadline for GeauxVote.com online electronic registration will be Sept. 21.
Persons interested in participating in the upcoming election must register to vote and make any change to their records by this deadline.
Registration applications may be completed at the registrar’s office in Suite 114 at the St. Landry Parish Courthouse, 118 S. Court St., Opelousas. You must be 18 or turn 18 by the date of the election. Additionally, individuals can pick up mail-in registration forms at city halls, banks, and libraries in the different municipalities and online at GeauxVote.com. These forms must be postmarked or submitted by the Sept. 11.

St. Louis Cemetery asking for donations
The St. Louis Cemetery, located at the corner of St. Louis Road and Sittig in Eunice is seeking donations for the upkeep and maintenance of the cemetery. The cemetery strictly operates by donations and volunteers. The cemetery is not a private one.

Farmers Market at DMV parking lot
The Eunice Farmers’ Market is held in the DMV parking lot, and normally is open from 9 a.m. until noon on Saturdays.
However, on the third Saturday of each month the market is joined by outside vendors and the market remains open until 3 p.m. The market always has fresh produce, honey, and canned goods. On third Saturdays there are also baked goods and arts and crafts.

Rendez-Vous De Cajuns at Liberty
The Laissez Les Bons Temps Rouler Au Rendez-Vous De Cajuns is scheduled at the Liberty every from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday with live entertainment.
The Liberty opens at 4 p.m. the show begins at 6 p.m.

Dates set Catechism classes at St. Anthony
The elementary (grades kindergarten through sixth grade) Faith Formation/Catechism classes for the 2019-2020 year will begin at St. Anthony’s Church on Sept. 9. Sessions will be held from 4 to 5 p.m.
Junior High (grades 7 and 8) will begin at 6 p.m. on Sept. 9.
High School (grades 9-12) will begin with the 6 p.m. Life Team Mass on Oct. 6, followed by the first Life Night of the semester.

LSUE Testing Center offers HiSET exam
The Testing Center on the LSU Eunice campus has expanded its offerings after being named a HiSET (GED) testing site.
The HiSET exam is a test used to measure high school equivalency skills. It is designed for out-of-school youth and adults without a high school diploma.
The LSUE Testing Center added HiSET and CLEP to its lineup of exams that it proctors. LSUE also offers Accuplacer, Peregrine, TEAS, and proctored exams for LSUE and non-LSUE college students.
The Center is open Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. and is located on the first floor of the LSUE LeDoux Library.

Hour of Prayer at New Zion Baptist Church
The New Zion Missionary Baptist Church invites the public to an Hour of Power Prayer every Thursday at 11:30 a.m. at the J.G. Frank, Senior Christian Life Center, located at 251 Nimitz in Eunice.
On the third Thursday of each month, senior citizens are invited to fellowship with a meal immediately following the prayer service.

The DAV (Disabled American Veterans) is in dire need of volunteer drivers to drive veterans from Eunice to Alexandria.

Free child car seat installation
Free installation of child car safety seats is being offered from 4 to 6 p.m. every Monday at Word Ministries, 1960 W. Laurel Ave., Eunice.
The seats will be installed by a nationally certified technicians.
VFW bingo held Thursdays, Sundays
The VFW Post 8971 holds bingo for the public at 7 p.m. every Thursday and Sunday at the VFW Hall located on U.S. 190 East. All proceeds from Bingo games goes back to the community.
Evangeline Parish adult education classes
