OLLI French Table meeting Friday
The French Table will meet at 9 a.m. Friday in Room 117 at LSUE Continuing Education Building by the baseball field and carpool to Buckhorn Taxidermy Studio. Ben Bischoff accepted the group’s wishes to visit and learn about his vocation.
The group will leave LSUE at 9:15 a.m. This session may last a little longer that 10 a.m. One may go directly to the Taxidermy Studio if you wish.

Farmer’s Market is underway
The Eunice Farmers’ Market is currently meeting on South 2nd Street on from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday. Effective May 31, it will also meet from 2 to 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Gavin Dupre Memorial Benefit planned June 11
A benefit is planned June 11 for the family of Gavin Dupre, 12, who died May 8 of accidental gun shot.
The benefit is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Northwest Community Center Pavilion, 651 Samuel Drive, Eunice.
Activities include live entertainment, live auction, bake sale, food and drink, face painting and games.
The event is being coordinated by Mary Guillory, a Eunice Police officer, stated in a letter that both parents are members of the Police and fire departments “... and we feel it is imperative that we take care of ‘Two of our own.’”
The benefit is to help the family pay for final expenses and receive counseling.
There also may be a dunking booth.

Free child car seat installation
Free installation of child car safety seats is being offered from 4 to 6 p.m. every Monday at Word Ministries, 1960 W. Laure Ave., Eunice.
The seats will be installed by a nationally certified technicians.

Summer reading registration is May 30
Registration for Summer Reading Program starts on May 30 at the Eunice Public Library.
There will be a “Make and Take” craft at the library on June 2 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. All materials will be provided. Children will have the opportunity to craft a marshmallow catapult or a pom pom popper.

Joseph Celestine-Rosenwald reunion
The Joseph Celestine/Rosenwald 10th biennial school reunion will be held July 21-23 in Mamou at the Celestine Community Center, 222 Hickory St., Mamou, at 7 p.m. July 21 and concluding on July 23 with a morning worship service at St. Ann Catholic Church in Mamou.

Summer Fun Camp at Jean Lafitte set
The Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve’s Prairie Acadian Cultural Center in Eunice will accept applications for Camp Bonjour, a week long camp for kids ages 6-8, and 9-12.
Children can participate in summer day camps:
Ages 9-12, July 10-14 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. $50 fee.
Ages 6-8, July 17-21, from 9 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. $30 fee.
Registration is limited to 20 campers per session.

FCWC co-ed softball tourney set June 24
Faith Christian Worship Center will sponsor a co-ed softball tournament June 24 at the Mamou ball park.
The complex is located at 1513 Ortwein Road.
Team entry fee is $225 and there will be prizes for the first and second place teams.
This tournament is a fundraiser to help send FCWC kids to camp.

Saturday program at the Prairie Acadian Cultural Center
Saturday programs at the Prairie Acadian Cultural Center, 250 W. Park Ave., Eunice, are the Explore & Restore craft workshop for kids, from 10 a.m. to noon; Cajun Conversations meets 1 to 2:30 p.m. to learn and practice conversational Cajun French; Music and dancing kicks off at 2:45 p.m. and ends with the cooking demonstration and sampling at 4 p.m. Admission to the center and programs is free.

VFW bingo held Thursdays, Sundays
The VFW Post 8971 holds bingo for the public at 7 p.m. every Thursday and Sunday at the VFW Hall located on U.S. 190 East. All proceeds from Bingo games goes back to the community.

Evangeline Parish adult education classes
The Evangeline Parish adult education classes will be offered from 5 to 8 p.m. every Monday at the Basile police station.

Knights of Columbus sells white crosses
The Eunice Knights of Columbus Council 1745 is currently selling white crosses to be placed in yards.
The crosses are available from Bill Parrie at 251 N. 6th St., or at Bertrand’s Printing, or in front of St. Anthony Church after each morning Mass at 7 a.m., 9 a.m., and 11 a.m.
A $5 donation is requested.

Funeral honor guard for vets needs help
A foundation has been set for a St Landry Parish Veteran Funeral Honor Guard and now it needs donations to become a reality, according to Lincoln “Link” Savoie, coordinator.

Help for flood-damage houses
Love Acadiana is partnering with Eight Day of Hope to rebuild and restore homes damaged by flooding.
The flood relief effort is seeking 3,000 volunteers to rebuilding 300 houses in eight days.
Eight Days of Hope is a Christian, non-profit organization that is both evangelical and non denominational.
Love Acadiana’s stated purpose is to connect the faith and business communities together in a partnership that encourages and empowers them to life transformation.
Those who are still working on their home may call 232-HELP or visit loveacadian.org be included for the work week June 4 to 11. The volunteers will assist with any level of damage.
Those interesting in volunteering should visit loveacadiana.org by May 26. All skill levels are welcome.
