Eunice Mayor Scott Fontenot said security is being enhanced for the upcoming five-day Mardi Gras celebration.
“We’re preparing to keep our patrons safe for our festival the best way that we can,” he said.
“The Eunice Police Department is going to be in full staff, and we’ll have some outside agencies assisting also. We’ll definitely have a lot of boots on the ground. We will have in place some concrete vehicle barriers to prevent what took place in New Orleans on New Year’s,” he said.
“We’ll have our area where the festival grounds will be taking place secured so people can enjoy themselves as far as from a standpoint of a vehicle attack,” he said.
The security measures are to include concrete barriers to block vehicular traffic. Heavy trucks will also be parked in key areas.
“It’s sad that we have to talk about that, but that’s the first thing we looked at after the incident in New Orleans,” he said.
