Sheriff issues news release on jail suit filed

St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz issued a news release on Wednesday following a suit by Parish President Jessie Bellard on jail costs.
“The St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office strongly disputes the allegations contained in the suit and looks forward to receiving the financial documents that have been requested by the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office from the St. Landry Parish Government for the past four months to calculate the fixed and variable costs of the jail expenses pursuant to state law.
“The St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office currently has 55 corrections officers providing security and transportation at the parish jail at a cost to the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office of approximately $2.8 million. The St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office will add an additional 8 corrections officers to provide security and transportation at the trustee dormitory. The projected total cost in 2025 for security and transportation at the jail and trusty dormitory will cost the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office approximately $3.2 million per year.”
The news release concluded, “The St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office will not make any further comment on pending litigation matters.”
