A series of voter registration drives in celebration of Voter Registration Week and in preparation for the upcoming fall election cycle began Thursday in Eunice, according to Byron Stelly, parish registrar of voters.
People will be able to register to vote, make changes to a current registration, and gain information on the absentee-by-mail program.
The deadline to register or make changes in-person or by mail is Oct. 7 and the deadline for online registrations and changes is Oct. 15.
The event schedule is as follows:
— Thursday, 3 to 5 p.m., Eunice City Hall, 300 S. 2nd St. ;
— Sept. 9, 11:30 a.m. to 1::30 p.m. Eunice City Hall, 300 S. 2nd St.;
— Sept. 17, 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., Registrar of Voters Office, 118 S. Court St..m Opelousas;
— Sept. 18, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., St. Landry Community Action, 1065 Hwy. 749, Ste E, Opelousas; and
— Sept. 19, 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., Registrar of Voters Office, 118 S. Court St.., Opelousas.
Additionally, there were several changes made over the summer as a result of reapportionment.
New Voter ID cards were sent to any voter who was affected by the changes.
Stelly encourages everyone to take the time to verify their information ahead of the upcoming elections.
