Voters crush school tax proposals

St. Landry Parish voters overwhelmingly rejected three tax propositions in Saturday’s election. Proposition 1, which asked for a 9.9-mill, 10-year property tax to raise about $6.6 million annually for pay raises, was rejected by 75% vote 12,962 votes cast. There were 9,770 votes against the tax. The tax would have paid for a $3,000 pay raise for certified employees and $2,000 for support staff…
