Free mobile COVID-19 testing today at EHS

Free mobile COVID-19 testing is available from 8 to 11 a.m. today at Eunice High School, 301 S. Bobcat Dr.
The Louisiana Department of Health/Office of Public Health and St. Landry Parish government have teamed up with the Louisiana National Guard to offer the testing through July 7. The Guard will staff the sites from 8 to 11 a.m.
Other dates and sites are:
— June 24, Sunset, Sunset Middle School, 236 Churchill St.;
— June 24, Krotz Springs, Krotz Springs Elementary School, 445 Division St.;
— June 25, Port Barre, Port Barre Elementary School, 199 O. G. Track Road;
— June 30, Leonville, Leonville Elementary, 3774 La. 31;
— July 1, LeBeau, North Central High School, 6579 La. 10;
— July 2, Eunice, Eunice High School, 301 S. Bobcat Dr.; and
— July 7, Opelousas, Opelousas Civic Center, 1638 Creswell Lane.
“The Louisiana National Guard proudly partners with the Louisiana Department of Health, Office of Public Health and local parish leaders to help support the expansion of COVID-19 testing in Louisiana to better serve the community and Protect What Matters,” said Brig. Gen. Cindy H. Haygood, assistant adjutant general. “With our public health partners and support of local parish leadership, we have the equipment and the medical personnel to bring testing to the communities where people live.”
Mobile testing will allow the Louisiana National Guard to bring testing kits to community locations throughout the parish.
Van Reed, St. Landry Parish director of emergency preparedness, said, “This partnership greatly increases access to testing for our residents, especially those in rural areas.”
Testing site details include the following:
— Testing is for open for any Louisiana resident 16 years of age and older with valid Louisiana identification.
— There is no cost for the testing. No symptom screening required.
— The testing site will be conducted as a drive-thru test site. Walk-up testing is not preferred due to safety concerns, but they will not be turned away.
— Once on site, those being tested will need to wear a mask and stay in their cars for verification of eligibility criteria, ID check, and self-administered testing.
— The site will use a self-administered nasal swab test that will allow those being tested to swab their own nose onsite while in their vehicles, observed by a trained medical volunteer to ensure the sample is taken correctly.
— Once results are received, the local Office of Public Health will contact those who were tested to communicate their results and share any necessary information.
