St. Landry Parish President Jessie Bellard met with several parish mayors Wednesday about the increase in positivity rates in the parish and what the impact of the modified Phase 2.
The parish has experienced a second straight week of higher COVID-19 positivity percentages. For the week of Nov. 5 to 11, the parish had an 11.90% rate. That number was up from the 11.10% recorded the week before.
Bellard and the mayors agreed to push the message to their citizens to wear a mask, wash hands, and continue to social distance, a parish government news release stated.
St. Landry Parish rated a D grade on the COVID-19 Social Distancing Scorecard hosted by the website unacast.com which measures human mobility.
The meeting addressed bars in the parish that are affected by the higher positivity rates and the governor’s new modified Phase 2. Bellard recommended that bar owners follow the governor’s proclamation:
For bars in parishes above 5% positivity, bars are closed to indoor sales and consumption but open for outdoor consumption at tables only and 25 percent capacity, with a maximum of 50 people. Social distancing is required. Take-out and delivery will still be available.
Bellard recommended that bar owners who have questions about the modified Phase 2 should visit opensafely.la.gov and register their business. New guidance for the Phase is available for download at that website.
