A single-vehicle crash at about 8 p.m. Thursday on La. 103 near Hebert Ortego Road in St. Landry Parish took the life of 20-year-old Caleb Alexander Doucet of Washington, according to a Louisiana State Police Troop I news release.
The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Doucet was driving south on La. 103 in a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado. For reasons still under investigation, Doucet’s vehicle ran off the roadway. Upon doing so, the Silverado overturned and struck a tree.
Doucet was unrestrained at the time of the crash. He was pronounced deceased at the scene by a representative from the St. Landry Parish Coroner’s Office. Impairment is unknown but a standard toxicology sample was obtained for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.
Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists that, while not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a crash rise significantly when properly restrained.
Troop I has investigated 12 fatal crashes resulting in 14 deaths in 2021.
