2 other victims identified in I-10 crash that killed Eunice woman

Two other victims of a fatal crash on Interstate 10 on April 7 have been identified by Louisiana State Police.

The four-vehicle crash killed 25-year-old Sadie Fontenot of Eunice.

The other victims were 27-year-old Derrell W. Smith, Jr. of Lake Charles and 24-year-old Kelsie Murphy of Crowley.

The State Police preliminary investigation revealed a vehicle was traveling east in the westbound lanes of travel on I-10 before colliding with another vehicle head-on. Shortly after the initial impact, a Ford F250 collided with one of the vehicles. Debris from the crashes caused minor damage to a passing 18-wheeler.

Due to the severity of the crash, seat belt usage on the part of the deceased driver and passenger was unable to be determined and those occupants have yet to be positively identified at this time. A passenger in one of the vehicles was properly restrained and was transported to local hospital in critical condition.

Fontenot was not restrained and was pronounced deceased at the scene by a representative from the Acadia Parish Coroner’s Office.

The driver of the F250 and 18-wheeler were both properly restrained and reported no injuries.
