Acadia Parish jurors interview secretary-treasurer candidates

Tuesday night’s interview session with candidates for parish secretary-treasurer was more like a meet-and-greet.
For the most part, members of the Acadia Parish Police Jury — the “interviewers” — sat silent as five of the nine candidates introduced themselves and talked about their respective backgrounds.
Only A.J. “Fatty” Broussard of Crowley, the current secretary-treasurer, was asked a couple of questions to clarify statements made during his address.
In addition to Broussard, candidates present for the Tuesday night session included Kerry Gibson of Crowley, Sandra Hanks of Branch, Terry Magnon of Rayne and Stephen Sislock of Crowley.
The Police Jury had also received applications/resumés from Terry Lacombe of Egan, David Melancon of Iota, Amy Pousson of Iota and David M. Savoie of Crowley, none of whom were present Tuesday.
President Chance Henry said the jury’s decision will be made at the Feb. 11 regular meeting.
The secretary-treasurer’s position is appointed by the police jury for a term of four years. Last year the jury voted to raise the annual salary for the position from $50,000 to $60,000, effective this year.
