Nancy Loewer, long-active as a volunteer, member and officer of the Crowley Main Street Board, will assume the position of executive director of the Acadia Parish Tourist Commission effective April 1.
Loewer was selected from among five finalists for the position, a number whittled down from the 19 completed applications.
She will replace Gwen Hanks, who served in that position for 25 years before retiring in June, 2020.
“We’re very happy with the selection and to welcome Nancy as our new director,” said Bart Wild, commission chairman and member of the selection committee.
Loewer brings a unique and broad knowledge and understanding of the diverse cultures of Acadia Parish to the board.
“We live in a world of ‘fake it till you make it,’ and while that may work in some places, here in Louisiana, authenticity is practically a religion, especially when it comes to our food and culture,” she said.
Born and raised in Acadia Parish of German and French heritage, Loewer has made many contacts throughout the parish and beyond with an extensive sales background and community involvement.
“I was raised on a farm and my husband and I farm,” she said. “I have been privileged to travel and attend many meetings of the rice industry over the years and have learned a great deal and know many of the industry leaders.
“I have also cultivated relationships with many of our local and state officials which I believe will benefit the commission.”
Loewer is currently a radio and television account executive with KAJN Radio and Family Vision TV.
She is a magna cum laude graduate of the University of Louisiana - Lafayette with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communications with a concentration in advertising and a minor in visual arts.
Loewer is a member of the Crowley Lions Club, Crowley Art Association, Roberts Cove Germanfest and served on the marketing committee for One Acadia. She is a 2010 graduate of Leadership EXCEL.
She and husband Jackie Loewer are members of First Baptist Church of Crowley, where Nancy teaches Sunday School and serves on the Community Outreach Committee.
She will officially begin her duties with the APTC on April 1, “but I’ll be here before that,” she added.
