By roll call vote, the results from the April 29 election and the 2017 millage rates were adopted by the Acadia Parish School Board unanimously.
The board canvassed the results that saw School District 7’s millage renewal and two parishwide millage continuations all pass.
Though not the best turnout, the Acadia Parish School Board got what it was hoping for with the continuations and renewal. In the case of the continuations that amounted to 20.38 combined mills parishwide, those funds are vital for the school board’s day-to-day life. Following its passage, at its May meeting, the board and superintendent expressed their individual and collective “thank yous” to those who went out and voted to help Acadia Parish’s children.
Meanwhile, the Acadia Parish Assessor’s Office has released its millage rates for various Acadia entities for 2017, and, in regard to the APSB, most are remaining the same with the exception of two. The Fifth Ward maintenance millage will increase from 13.44 to 13.45 mills and the Eighth Consolidated School District will decrease from 10.92 to 10 mills.
As adopted by unanimous roll call vote, the millage rates are as follows:
• Constitutional Tax: 5.23 mills.
• School Maintenance Tax: 5.10 mills.
• Fifth Ward Maintenance: 13.45 mills.
• Consolidated School Dist. 8 (Iota area): 10.00 mills.
• School District Tax: 15.28 mills.
• School District 6 - Church Point: 10.00 mills.
After getting that done, the school board breezed through its routine items.
The board unanimously acknowledged the expenditure report it heard during May committee meetings, approved the recommended bids for child nutrition, renewed the Crowley Post-Signal as its official journal and its property insurer and approved the Iota High School Beta Club’s summertime trip to Florida.
It also approved the dates for its next committee and regular board meeting with one correction from its proposed dates. Now, the board’s committees will meet on Wednesday and hold its next full meeting on July 10.
