Appointments to the various boards in St. Landry Parish are usually routine matters, but Eunice’s Hospital Service District 1 came under scrutiny at a meeting of the St. Landry Parish Council’s Administrative-Finance Committee.
There were three appointments to the hospital board to be authorized for advertisement.
Lawtell area Councilman Timmy Lejeune said, “I would like to know if they could give us some information on that facility. I would like to know how much money they have. I would also like to know how often they meet because this facility looks like a dump site. And I would like to know what are doing there.”
Lejeune asked that Council Clerk Novella Moore obtain several meeting minutes and the boundaries of the district.
Jimmie Edwards, a Eunice parish councilman, volunteered to find and report details about the hospital district.
The hospital district has authority over the former Moosa Hospital, but has been able to do anything with the building because of the demolition cost, which is raised by asbestos concerns.
The district’s 2016 audit shows it has a fund balance of about $409,000.
Hospital District 1 Board members include Lloyd Antoine, Brenda Hardy, Michelle DeRouen, Newton “Chip” Thibodeaux Jr., Robert Quirk Jr., and Sandifer Burson.
Board members serve six year terms.
Thibodeaux is Board chairman.
The terms of Hardy, Quirk and Thibodeaux are expiring.
