The Al Berard Fund, a fund of Community Foundation of Acadiana, awarded a $2,000 grant to the Acadiana Center for the Arts (AcA).
The grant will benefit the M.I. Brary Music Instrument Library project which allows children to check out musical instruments for up to six weeks to see if they truly have a passion for learning how to play this particular instrument.
The program is developed to help new musicians chose the right instrument for them. The instruments will be loaned to children at no cost.
This program connects to AcA’s Play It Again program. With support from COX and Lafayette Music, AcA collects the used instruments, repairs and refurbishes them and gives them to kids to use during. This program is designed to create over-arching opportunity for interested kids who cannot afford an instrument.
AcA partners with Ryan Cazares and his M.I. Brary group to create wide-ranging access to music for all students in the community, regardless of their economic background.
Start-up funding for the program is provided by a CivicSide grant, with additional support from the Al Berard Memorial Fund, CGI, the705, Potenza, Perret Group, and Doctor C Music.
The Al Berard Memorial Music Fund, a fund of Community Foundation of Acadiana, directly promotes and supports Acadiana’s unique musical culture by providing instruments, master teachers and music scholarships to students of all ages as well as funding for community based organizations that support Acadiana’s rich musical community and promote the musical culture in southwest Louisiana.
