Aldermen to hear more about city housekeeping

The Eunice Board of Aldermen are to hear of more community housekeeping measures as four properties are its agenda for cleanup action.
Alderman Jack Burson, Dale Soileau and Jason Bertrand, along with Mayor Scott Fontenot, met Thursday to set the agenda for the city meeting on Tuesday.
The meeting, which starts at 6:15 p.m. with a public hearing on a contract with LAWCO, includes a condemnation hearing for a property at 1050 Faris Street.
Other properties listed for show cause hearings are 120 W. Bacciochi St., 130 W. Bacciochi St. and 530 S. Martin Luther King Drive.
They are the latest of properties targeted by city for cleanup.
The Board also plans to introducea resolution to authorize the police chief to appoint, discipline and discharge police personnel.
Currently, Aldermen must be act on police personnel issues such as hiring and firing. In a bill authored by Rep. Phillip DeVillier, the police chief is delegated the authority by the Board to handle personnel issues.
The police chief is to be limited by the department’s budget established by the Board and mayor.
Other items planned for the agenda include:
— Asking the parish sales tax collection office to provide the city a list of business collections and how much they collect.
— Possible update on the softball and baseball season, and a hunting and fishing camp.
— Announcement of new representatives for the fire and police departments to the civil service board.
— Consider another resolution to the state on resurfacing West Maple Avenue.
