Aldermen breezed through an agenda Tuesday that included adopting millage rates that are unchanged from last year and postponing hearings that can lead to property demolitions.
The city millage remains are to remain at 6.77 for general alimony and 5 for street maintenance.
There were six properties that were to be considered for action by the Board of Aldermen, but Vernon McManus, city attorney, said four hearings had to be postponed because the owners needed 30 days notice instead of 10 days.
McManus said it was thought the owners lived in Eunice, but it turned out they live out of the city. A 10-day notice is given to property owners living inside the city and 30 days to those living outside the city, he said.
The properties getting a reprieve are 411 S. CC Duson, Susan Finley, owner; 720 and 730 Carron Street, Orina Hardy, owner; and 451 N. Beulah St., Donald Freeman, owner.
Aldermen did approve show cause hearings in the Board’s June meeting for 350 E. Peach Ave. and 560 Lewis St.
Adlerwoman Germaine Simpson said updates to the Amy Park tennis courts and construction of a splash pad are progressing.
Mayor Scott Fontenot said the park is located near Central Middle School.
The city is in the process of putting in two splash pads to be as soon as the first of June.
The other splash pad is to be located at Fairground Park.
The mayor has said the city will spend about $100,000 each on the splash pad using money from a 30-year contract with Cleco, he said.
In other business, aldermen agreed with Fontenot to delay requests for stops signs at East Vine Avenue and North East Street; and North East Street and East Magnolia.
Ordinances were approved to clear the way for approving amendments to the current budget and adopting a new budget at the June 12 meeting.
Aldermen approved declaring a 203 Crown Victoria police unit as surplus. Police Chief Randy Fontenot said the vehicle has more than 135,000 miles on it and has not been used because of its repair needs.
With summer vacation approaching, the police chief said the curfew for juveniles is 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday to Thursday and midnight to 5 a.m. Friday and Saturday.
The Board approved a subdivision plat by Antonio Zavala. The property is Threat Street, East Bacciochi, North Martin Luther King and the northern city limit. The area is zone R2, which allows uses from single family, mobile homes to apartments.
