Alderwoman Germaine Simpson repeated her plea to Eunice residents to bag their trash before placing it in the trash carts.
Simpson said at the July 9 city Board meeting that she has been talking about the issue for two years.
“What happens if it is not bagged is the wind blows and blows trash all over ...,” she said.
City crews pick up as much as litter as they can, but the city cannot hire a crew to just pick up trash every day, she said.
“Make sure you bag your trash,” she urged.
And for large items such as sofas and mattresses, residents should call Waste Connections (337-942-4031) to schedule a pick up, she said.
St. Landry Parish Government has scheduled storm debris pick up and a story about that is on this page.
Five code enforcement issues were addressed by the Board of Aldermen.
— A condemnation order was approved for 150 Armide Street. Bill Thompson, code enforcement officer, said sheds on the property are being inhabited.
Alderman Ernest Blanchard voted against the condemnation.
“I think we can get a church organization to help her if we look into it,” he said of the owner who said she cannot afford to do the cleanup work.
— A show cause hearing is scheduled next month for 251 College Road. Thompson said a trailer on the property has been vacant.
— A show cause hearing hearing was approved for 341 E. Ash Ave.
— A show cause hearing was approved for 151 S. St. George St.
— Condemnation for 511-A Pearl St. was removed. Thompson said the property has been secured.
In other business at the July 9 meeting, the Board approved a $255,640 apron rehabilitation project at the Eunice Airport.
Drew Miller, airport manager, said $50,000 in planning work has been completed and bids were opened June 25 at Aucoin and Associates. The bid was awarded to Elliott Construction, LLC, of Grand Coteau, he said.
The other bids were Coastal Bridge Company, LLC, of Baton Rouge, $264,730; and Prairie Construction, LLC, of Opelousas, $314,730.
