There was a heavy police presence at Eunice High School Wednesday morning following a bomb threat Tuesday afternoon on Instagram, a social media website.
Two K9 units were employed to search the school Tuesday evening, Eunice Police Chief Randy Fontenot said.
Eunice Police radio dispatch logs indicate police were made aware of the threat at about 6 p.m. The school was declared cleared at about 9:15 p.m.
Fontenot said in an email, “Officers will be stationed at the school over night. Officers will also be posted at all school entrances tomorrow as students arrive. Students will be safe tomorrow as they arrive for school.”
A bomb threat on Iota High and middle schools followed the one in Eunice, he said.
Fontenot said it is believed the Iota threat was a copycat.
The threat was the first of the school year, he said.
“I hope this doesn’t start them up again because they hit Iota last night,” he said.
“We don’t think they were connected,” he added.
Both threats were on Instagram and Fontenot said Louisiana State Police have joined in the investigation.
The threat was first made known to law enforcement through Eddie Thibodeaux of the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office, he said.
The Iota schools were cleared from the bomb threat overnight and classes were held Wednesday.
