Budget is on city agenda

The city’s next budget and amending its present budget are on the agenda for the Eunice Board of Aldermen’s meeting Tuesday.
Hearings on the budgets are scheduled at 6:15 p.m. in the second floor meeting room to be followed by the regular meeting at 6:30 p.m.
Mayor Scott Fontenot and aldermen met Thursday to start planning the agenda for the meeting.
The 2018-2019 budget includes general fund revenues of $2.9 million and special revenues of $5.8 million.
General fund expenditures are $7.2 million, which are supported by a transfer of $4 million from other funds.
The general fund’s beginning balance is $314,000 and its ending balance is forecast at $52,000.
The special revenue fund beginning balance is $5.8 million and is projected to a have an ending balance of $6 million.
In other business the city’s street improvement project bid is up for a vote. Coastal Bridge of Baton Rouge was the low bidder at $789,265.
Karl Aucoin, city engineer, said the contract is for the work to begin by Aug. 1 and be completed by Oct. 1.
Aucoin also presented a preliminary pat for a development bordered by Bacciochi and Martin Luther King on the city’s north side. There was no detail about the housing that will be on the property.
Aldermen are to discuss several properties facing possible demolition by the city. They are 720 and 730 Carron St., 451 N. Beulah St., 350 E. Peach Ave., and 560 Lewis St.
A structure at 411 S. CC Duson was given a 30-day extension as the owner is to decide on selling it or renovating.
The mayor and aldermen also discussed drainage at Thursday’s meeting, particularly culverts.
