Budget is on city’s agenda

Amending the current budget and adopting a budget for the 2020-2021 year are on the agenda for Tuesday’s meeting of the Board of Aldermen.
The Board is also to consider a proposal to make Walnut Avenue one-way from 2nd to 3rd streets. The traffic flow would be east, if approved.
A police report on crashes in the block found 25 reported crashes between 2010 and 2019. Of the crashes, 19 involved at least one vehicle backing, the report stated.
The report suggests there may be unreported crashes.
“Many times, crashes are not reported for various reasons. Those reasons being such as hit & run with no suspect and minor damages and the victim does not report to police, the owners decide not to file a report and because of minor damages, etc.,” it stated.
Eunice Mayor Scott Fontenot said code enforcement actions will be postponed. The actions involve the processes leading to condemnations.
The city’s current budget is to be amended to reflect general fund revenues of $2,989,040 and expenses of $7,428,882 with transfer into the fund of $4,537,000. The city’s special revenue fund revenues are $6,143,700 and ending balance of $5,596,576.
The proposed 2020-2021 general fund budget includes revenues of $3,176,460 with transfers in of $4,432,500. The beginning balance is $3,344 and the ending balance is $16,129.
The proposed 2020-2021 special revenue funds projects revenue of $5,818,155. The fund has a beginning balance of $5,596,576 and ending balance of $5,638,356.
The meeting begins at 6:15 p.m. with public hearings on the budgets and the transferring the American Legion building on Park Avenue from the city back to the American Legion.
The regular meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Eunice City Council Chambers in the second floor of the Eunice Municipal Complex, 300 S. 2nd St.
