During a public hearing before Monday night’s council meeting, Village Engineer Ronnie Landreneau went through the process of applying for grants through the Louisiana Community Development Block Grant Program (LCDBG) for fiscal year 2020-2021.
Landreneau explained the public hearing was the first step in the process. “It’s to give the citizens the opportunity to hear about the project, and, at some later date, the village will make a decision.”
He added the public hearing was also held for the village to meet its citizen participation process in applying for the grants.
Once the regular meeting began, Village Administrator Gail McDavid reported the rebuilt sewer pump had been installed the day after it was approved during last month’s meeting.
McDavid also reported there are problems with the sewer collection system. He said, “Some of the manholes are getting sand and mud in them, and they’re not flowing like they should from one station to the other causing an overflow when we have rain.”
Councilwoman Debra Fontenot then explained a grant which the village received for the renovations of Parkview Apartments.
In other business, the council voted to adopt the citizen participation plan for the LCDBG, approved a resolution to sell Gula Miller property off of Church Street, to terminate Village Clerk Stephanie Smith, and to rehire former clerk Laken Fontenot.
