Weather conditions are forecast to worsen with wintry precipitation into Wednesday resulting in a flurry of notices.
Eunice Mayor Scott Fontenot has ordered Eunice city departments closed Monday due to impending extreme weather conditions.
The city is observing Mardi Gras on Tuesday with departments closed.
City emergency and essential personnel will function under the emergency guidelines and on-call policies.
On Thursday, St. Landry Parish Government announced sandbags are available in the barns behind the Yambilee Building, 1939 Landry Road, in Opelousas throughout the weekend for residents who need them. Bags have already been filled and stacked and are available for pickup now through Sunday night.
Parish President Jessie Bellard said, “With the winter weather, we can expect to see ice on the roads and possibly downed trees and branches. For everyone’s safety, it is best to stay off the roads, especially on Monday and Tuesday when the temperature is expected to drop below freezing, and there is a high possibility of frozen rain or snow.”
Bellard said public work crews and emergency management officials would be monitoring conditions through Tuesday.

Gov. Edwards has declared a state of emergency due to the current heavy rainfall totals beginning to impact the state and the potential for wintry conditions beginning this weekend and extending to next week.
The National Weather Service forecasts a slight chance of rain showers, freezing rain, and sleet after midnight Saturday and until 9 a.m. Sunday.

On Mardi Gras, the forecast is for mostly sunny with a high near 38, but freezing rain is back in the forecast Tuesday night.
Cleco warned residents to, “Gather supplies you might need during a power outage, charge cell phones, gather extra batteries, bring pets indoors, keep out the cold with insulation, caulking and weather stripping and test generators.”
