A Ward 4 alderman is to be appointed at a special meeting of the Eunice mayor and Board of Aldermen at 3:30 p.m. Monday at the Eunice Municipal Complex.
Earlier this month, Alderman Dale Solieau announced his resignation at the Aug. 8 Board meeting.
A letter from the secretary of state dated Aug. 14 stated the governing authority has 20 days to make an appointment to fill the vacancy.
Mayor Scott Fontenot said an election will not be held to fill the vacancy.
The next regular municipal election is in 2018.
Soileau said he resigned because he is moving out of town to his late mother’s residence in the Swords area.
Also on the agenda is an item to amend the budget for additional drainage funding.
Fontenot said there was about $50,000 in the budget for drainage work and that has been spent. Another $100,000 is sought for more drainage work, he said.
“We’ve been aggressive since last August,” he said of drainage work.
The city experienced widespread flooding in August 2016.
Also on the agenda is to remove a residency requirement for Eunice Municipal Fire and Police Civil Service Board members elected from the police and fire departments.
